So who's brilliant idea was it to take a day trip to Ayutthaya and then take an over night train/bus/boat combination down to Koh Phangyam? Oh well we survived it and and it was wild. To start off we took a sweaty hot train 3rd class train ride about 1.5 hours to Ayathaya, I think it was about 30 miles and we probably could have walked faster then the train but oh well, Ethan loved the train, he got to stand up and look out the window and yell at everything, it was a toddlers delight! He wasn't so thrilled about all the Thai grandma's on the train that had never seen such delightful curly blond hair, and at one point had captured him and were combing his hair 😊 yes we took pics and video. We will hopefully get pictures uploaded. So ethan also managed to score a bunch of fruit/crackers from everyone on the train. When we arrived at Ayutthaya we rented a crazy tuk tuk driver he was ridiculous! And we raced around seeing all sorts of great temples and even a 19m high sitting gold buddha. i just wonder how come they dont melt that thing down
and establish clean water and a sewer system. But then again I guess that is what makes me not a buddhist. Anyways Ethan enjoyed chasing some chickens and running wild everywhere. We had some ice cream and even owen scored a taste off of his Daddy! Owen loves ice cream! So we headed slowly back to Bangkok, stopped by khaosan road, grabbed our overly stuffed super heavy bags and headed back to the train station to take a sleeper to Surat Thani. The boys did great on the sleeper, They were both asleep by 830pm and slept the whole night. However the train was late so we missed the fast boat to the islands and ended up on a slow cargo boat. This is where we learned that Ethan does not do squatty potties. the poor boy had to poop and did not want to poop in the hole. After 2 poopy pants and much refusal I ended up persuading him to let me hold him over the squat pot and he had success... which was a good thing as he was on the last pair of shorts and would have been wearing one of Owen's diapers. We made it
to the island hopped a taxi to the other small dock and got a boat taxi to Bottle beach, this is where the chaos happened. Poor Owen was so tired and exhausted he was done, he screamed bloody murder for 15 minutes on the boat, not even the boobie would help and then passed out. I felt just awful for him.
we then spent 8 fantastic sunny days doing nothing on the beach, we all slept well, played in the ocean and pool and relaxed!! well gerson studied alot but the boys and i had some good chill time. The island has definately changed in the past 10 years and I would say for the better. I am too old to not have AC in 90* weather.
On monday we took a fast ferry over to Koh Tao which is realized is a busier, faster, noisier, dirtier, and more expensive version then where we were. But we wanted to dive and so we did. Gerson went diving on Tuesday afternoon and loved it, and brenda went diving on wednesday afternoon and had a small anxiety attack, saw 2 turtles and 2 sting rays, got terribly seasick/just plain sick
and ended up not eating for 30 hours and hugging the toilet half the night... yuck. Which brings us to the the trip home on Thursday, we took a rough ferry to the main land. Also new item learned Owen gets seasick and he puked everywhere on his momma while sitting outside trying to not get further sea sick. Then an over night train ride which was an hour late, and finally a taxi back to our hotel here in Bangkok. What a ride! a grumpy, tantrum, crying, puking, ride. we were glad it is over.
We have been chilling here at our hotel on khaosan raod for the weekend where the staff know our babies and all take selfies with both of them. Tonight Gerson will leave for the airport around 10pm and head to San Fran (brenda is super jealous because he not only gets to see here BFF for a week he is going to be kid free), and then brenda and the kids head to airport and taipei at 5am tomorrow. Here goes my first time flying with 2 kids and internationally at that! Crazy times are coming up. better get the ipad and binkies
ready 😊
We meet back here in bangkok in a week then off to Cambodia. Thankfully we have made the better life choice of flying to cambodia!
Lets all wish Gerson good luck on his test! You can do it!!!!!!!!!!! I will update from Taipei!
