After an absolutely amazing bus and ferry ride to Koh Phangan (detect the sarcasm), me and Graeme checked into a beach village not far from the pier in Thongsalla. The beach huts were pretty basic and the beach wasn't exactly something you would picture after watching the film ''The Beach'', but we were absolutely knackered and decided we couldn't be arsed to venture any further at the time. After a sleep we finally arose and met the people who we would be spending the next 4 days with. These were about 10 cockneys, all having a gap year before going off to university, and two absolute legend Irishmen, Sean and Paul.
Me and Graeme decided they were sound enough and ended up going with them to a sort of warm up to the full moon party, down at the very beach which it is held at in Haat Rin. We experienced our very first buckets (something which we would never properly remember due to them literally being a bucket of vodka, redbull and apparently some amphetamine). Ended up absolutely smashed with little recollection of the previous night.
The day of the full moon party and we were greeted
by Tom who had just arrived by bus and ferry after saying his goodbyes to his beloved Rosie. Apparently his bus got raided as the drivers were stealing shit from people's bags...this is the third time i've heard of this happening, the bus behind us had the same thins happen to them. Spent all day drinking Chang (6.4% huge bottles of beer) with Tom, Graeme, Sean & Paul, the funniest day i've had so far...a night of no less than 4 ipods loaded with 80's music! We even got taught a new dance move...pulling the Moon towards you! Finally made our way to the full moon party, which (from what I can remember) was pretty good until everyone lost each other. Got a taxi home with a bunch of Canadian dudes, I was told that it was 100THB for the lift back only to find the taxi driver demanding 200THB once he had dropped me off. I was drunk and feeling tough so argues with him for about 10 minutes...this resulted in him going for my pockets in which I had about 2000THB!! I reacted quickly (god knows how in my state) and got away with out paying a thing
:-) Got back to the room and I was locked out, totally forgot that Graeme had the key so went for a walk. Found Graeme in the exact same predicament as me except with a different taxi driver! Again, god knows how, but I acted rationally and called for them to meet halfway with the price, the they both accepted but the taxi driver had no money to give Graeme change and so he said he'd come back tomorrow (he never did...2-0 Graeme and Daz!!!)
The next day was a total come-down (literally). Woke up, covered in paint and sand, and to add to that a terrible headache. Couldn't remember much from the night before (a clear case of bucket abuse) everyone in the village was completely f*cked and the majority decided to stay in bed all day. After that we would spend one more lazy day in The White West Village before moving up to the North of the island.
Arrived in Hat Khom via 4 x 4 because there are basically no roads on this side of the island and getting around is so hard without one. Eventually got to the place and all this is
exactly what I was looking for in Thailand! Nice secluded place, good beach, good sunsets, amazing place to just chill out for the next few days! Met the owner of the place...Mr Wong, the guy is a total legend, with the best laugh I have ever heard! Met a few more people staying at the place, Oiven (Norway), Tal (Israel) and Ed (England), and Dan and Deb (both England) all sound as f*ck, we basically spent 4 days literally doing nothing but chill with these people for 4 days, was awesome. We did however manage to go snorkling around here as the area which we were staying at was a main dive spot for boat trips around the island, so after a short walk over some rocks, a couple of punctured feet from the coral, grazed knees, we finally got the the main coral and it was totally worth it. Absolutely loads of fish, at one point there seemed like there was a wall of fish in front of me, there were literally thousands of them! Anyways after some more chilling (see a trend) and delaying our departure from this place we finally decided it was time to leave for
Koh Tao. We've heard nothing but good things about this place so it should hopefully be amazing...time will tell.
Oh yeah, almost forgot...in the White West Village we found some of the funniest signs ever. "After the storm comes a clam"
