Today we had got tickets for a boat trip around 4 islands and to do a spot of snorkling.............. it cost around 12 pounds for the day. We were picked up at 8.15pm!!!!! We got a little ferry from the port at the little town we had visited yesterday................................ There are infact loads of little islands surrounding Koh Lanta which I didn't know about........... we visited Ko Ngai, Ko Cheuk, Ko Kradan and Ko Mook. The first place we stopped we jumped off and snorkeled..................... Dad you would have loved it- the water is so clear and so many brightly coloured fish- unlike Malta's grey waters!!!!! We moved on and everyone was getting into kyakes and we thought O great but it turned out we weren't allow as we hadn't paid the extra to do it- ... read more

Happy Valentines to all!!!! I actually forgot about it but sure my mum couldn't open the front door with all the Valentines I received back home!!!!!!!!! He He! Again we got up bright and early (for me!) to set off to Koh Lanta................................ The Ferry was a nice calm crossing apart from all the guys on board trying to sell you accomodation for Lanta......becomes very annoying after the 20th time you have been asked for 2hrs non stop! We had been recommended a place to stay by Belinda and Hans, who had stayed here before, Lanta Pearl Beach Resort (Long Beach)............... so we got a tuk tuk there- my first time in a little tuk tku- love 'em!!!! Like a little kids ride at the fun fair! Well turned up and the place was ok............... ok ... read more

JB: Well. three consecutive flights in a day, 16 hours in the air seemed like a good idea at the time. It has to be said that the flights worked out really well, connections were very good even though we had to queue for an hour at Bangkik immigration we stil made our flght to Krabi in plenty of time. What was less good was the constant change in air pressure which combined with the vile colds has left us with what feels like permanent ear damage, but we're sure it will pass soon. After 26hrs withour sleep it was so nice to walk out of Krabi airport and see our driver standing there brandshing a piece of paper with Barb's name on it. In the van and Barb fel asleep immediately. Two hours and two ... read more

(Swena) The Seahawks lost. I got four hours of sleep. I haven't had breakfast or a shower. Love you all. Will write more when my brain can function better. I leave you in the capible hands of Kev and Dust. Later (Kev) Ko Lanta may be favorite beach city yet. I loved Langkawi, and I liked the hostel and coastline better in Ko Pha Ngan…but over all Ko Lanta just had it going on. We had a bit of an adventure in getting here; we crammed ourselves into the local bus (basically just a truck) then boarded two ten-minute ferries, and then basically hitch hiked our way to our destination. We were fortunate because we didn’t even have to stick out our thumbs and within five minutes we were offered a ride. When we got to ... read more

The final week of our two month holiday saw us soaking up the sun in Ko Lanta, an island off the south west coast. Having had our fill of elephant safaris, bamboo rafting and trekking, we decided to devote ourselves to loafing about on the beach, sipping Mai Tai cocktails and watching sunsets. We took a day trip to Ko Phi Phi, which has the most spectacular scenery of all the Thai islands. There was some visible tsunami damage remaining, the first we have seen on our travels. The island is fast recovering- maybe too fast, judging by the size of some of the new developments going up on an already crowded resort. Our guides suggested that we walk up to a viewpoint overlooking Ton Sai, the main port on Phi Phi. Had we known this ... read more

Greetings to all. We are currently on Ko Lanta, a beautiful island in the Andaman Sea. Unlike resort areas like Patong, this is a very relaxing place with no touts trying to sell you tuk tuk rides, suits or massages. The people are so nice and everyone is very laidback. This is what we need before we start traveling in more challenging places like Cambodia and Laos. The islanders are mostly Muslims. This is the first place in Thailand where we have seen more mosques than Buddhist temples. There are no taxis here-the main forms of transport are on a motorbike or on the back of a pickup truck. The interior of the island is much poorer and less developed than the beach areas. In several places, people parked their motorbikes on the road. Not on ... read more

We arrived into Ko Lanta, a little island off Thailand's West Coast (The long thin bit of Thailand) on 2nd January. We were met at Saladan port by Corey, Kerry, Lou and Allaster - Stu's mates. Our journey from Bangkok was interesting!! We got the overnight train at 7:15pm. We decided to go for an air-con carriage, because Sarah thought she was gonna die last time she did the same journey. (And turned a tango-like orange colour from all the dust coming in the window). Stu slept like a baby, but I just couldn't sleep. All those romantic notions of train jouneys are B.S. if you ask me. They are noisy and you bounce around uncomfortably for most of the night. Anyways our train was late into Surat Thani, so we spent hours sitting around, then ... read more

Hello all, Well folks we are now in Ko Lanta staying on the northern most tip. Transfer by fast boat was good and we even had transport waiting for us, great we thought! then turned off onto an undulating dirt/mud track and onto a deserted beach, "what are we coming to?" we ask ourselves. Even more so when the driver tells us to get out and start wading (luggage and all) through knee high water to get to our resort. There had been a road/causeway 1 year ago.* On walking along the beach we could hear building work going on, more trepidation, but my goodness what a view of the bay, resort, infinity pool and our accommodation. It was beautiful as hopefully the pictures will show. Really a touch of paradise, a bit off the beaten ... read more
