Hey All,
I know better! Stupid, stupid, stupid. I am religious about keeping my sunscreen on, but for some reason I go jump into the pool today without it. And you guessed it, SUNBURN. Thank goodness I realized early enough that it did not get serious, but its very tender to say the least. Its mainly my nose and my shoulders and upper back. There is a pharmacy right at the end of our driveway so I will run up there in the morning and get some lotion.
Decided once again to blow off the moto ride. I was having such a good time just swimming, reading, took a nap in my hammock, before I knew it I looked at my watch and it was 3pm.
Our BBQ on the beach has kinda taken off today and ideas are being thrown out left and right. We invited the French Lady (Regine) to join us from her place, so all the group that was at dinner last night will be there. We ended up with 3 whole tuna, some good looking squid and prawns. Bought some chicken wings too. The girls went to the vegetable area to find some
good stuff for a salad, which Regine the Chef, prepared.
The guys at the bar next door let us use their large grill and they furnished the charcoal and did the grilling. All the staff from the bungalows stayed and had dinner with us. It was such a fun time. We set the grill up in the sand and they set up cushions on a large deck on the beach. We had all the fish listed above, plus corn on the cob, and the salad they made. We all sat down that long table and just passed food, told stories of past trips, where we would like to go next, just laughed, joked and had a really, really great time. For a few hours we were no longer Thais, French, German, Dutch or American, we were friends and travelers. It was one of those things you can never plan to happen, it just does and when it happens it’s the stuff that makes your trip so much more memorable. I will never forget it.
All of us will part ways tomorrow. Thomas will head for Krabi, I will head for Bangkok, Regine will be staying a few more
day, and the girls from Holland will be headed who knows where. We exchanged emails and promise to keep in touch. Who knows, sometimes life gets in the way, but I hope we do.
I will say that one time in 1986, Carnival Cruise Lines put a bunch of young people together at a table on the MS Holiday. 27 years after that week together, we exchanged numbers, promised to keep in touch, and today Lisa, Angela, Laurie, Theresa and Susan are my some of my best friends. Who knows, maybe someday life will touch me down in France and I can go eat at Regine’s Restaurant.
Well, the sweet lady at the Bungalows set me up with some ride to the airport tomorrow. It leaves at 11 and I have been assured I will make my flight to Bangkok on time. I am a little leary, but they have not mislead me yet. She charged me 400 baht ($13) so maybe I do feel like a fool for paying so much before. But we will see, this may be a sardine packing trip waiting to happen. You know I will let you know.
Happy Travels, Don
PS Once again sorry so late, as suspected the internet connection is just not great here. But, it is what it is.
