If I had to choose one word to characterize our time at Koh Jum it would have to be--lounge. In our entire eight day stay we probably strayed no farther than 300 meters from our little bungalow. Bungalow--food hut--lounge hut--beach--food hut--lounge hut--food hut--bungalow. Perfect. Koh Jum was exactly what we wanted. Good food. Decent beach. Warm water. Fun animals. No commitments. No worries. Plenty of time. So it rained--more time to read. So the tide was out--more tide pools and beach combing. Koh Jum is bursting with animal life. Monkeys chattered next to our bungalow. We coaxed hermit crabs out of their shells on the beach. Songbirds serenaded us by day and frogs by night. I could have done without the rat that climbed up on my leg in the middle of the night, but Chris ... read more

After the hectic pace of Bangkok I decided some R&R on the beach was in order. Ko Jum was recommended in the guide book as being a very laid back Island so after staying at Krabi in the Ban To guest house for one night and getting some recommendations from fellow travellers i caught a ferry from the port at Krabi to Ko Lanta. At Ko Jum longtail boats come out and meet you and you have to scramble off the ferry onto these little boats which is good fun!! Its a choppy ride to the Ting bay resort and after checking in it was a hike up the hill to my little bungalow. It was very basic but cheap and it was my first introduction to mossie nets, fans, ghecko lizards making laughing nosies in ... read more

After all the partying it was time to recharge our batteries and what better place to do this than on the little island of Ko Jum, an island with only electricity by generator for 3 hours a day, no big hotels and no parties only long sandy beaches and tree covered hills and the only form of transport a limited number of scooters for hire. The intial plan had been to head to the island of Ko Lanta but having traveled in 10 different vehicles in 12 hours including ferries, buses, mini vans, back of jeeps we arrived late on the island of Ko Lanta. It was dark, we were tired and accommodation was expensive resorts. The island was larger than expected and actually larger than Ko Pan Ngan it did not have the atmosphere we ... read more

This is a nice place I found in website and a girl at Sonya house can book for me but it's monsoon season so it's close. Koh Jum or Jum island is a small island (actually it's not small) close to Lanta island and Phi Phi island. The price start at 500 baht with shower, fan, private balcony. Check at the http://sophyalanta.blogspot.com/ she's the owner of a nice homestay and restaurant at Lanta island close to Jum island. If you make a reservation at her...for long stay from 2 night up...she'll give you very special price that you can't get from the bungalow.... read more

Z miasta Krabi dwoma pick up'ami dojechalismy do malej przystani, skad 3 razy dziennie odplywaja lodki na Ko Jum.

Dlaczego wybralismy to miejscu?

We went for a week to Ko Jum, it's a small island that's still not touristic. The water there was crystal clear and was motionless, as a swimming pool. We could swim really far and was nothing around. Was really really nice. And we spent our time swimming, reading and lying in the hammock and not much more (as this can fill a day quite easy). It was really relaxing until the sandflies found us..... We got bitten quite a lot and it was sooo itchy. So we decided to go back to civilization or what we call civilization since 6 months (Bangkok). The island itself was so calm and electricity was only through generator for 4-5 hours in the evening. We went down to the village every day and saw a bit of the life ... read more

Hi everyone! We wrapped up our time in Thailand by heading south. We took an overnight train, then bus to the Khao Sok National Park, a dense rainforest with 200m high limestone cliffs. Since it is the dry season most of the waterfalls and the river were quite low, but along our 7-hour trek winding up and down the hillls, there were plenty of opportunities to take a dip to cool off. We were both very proud that we actually finished the hike, seeing as we've sat behind desks for the last several years. We had to keep up with our guide and 3 young Swiss guys, so we tried to keep the panting to a minimum. We did however have very sore legs the next day (and a few after that)! We saw some interesting ... read more

Well, I'm officially stranded on an island -- not entirely deserted, but close enough. We heard a rumor that there was a computer in the school in the island village with internet and that might've been a stretch. I feel more like I'm shouting through a tin can than tapping into the world wide web here, but it should do the trick nonetheless. Expect more pictures using a different media soon ... I rejoin the real world on Wednesday -- after swimming offshore to catch a long-tail boat, we'll make our way back to the mainland (Krabi) and catch a plane to Bangkok. I'll send off Jason early Thursday morning, meanwhile he'll have to pass the TMIT torch off to some unsuspecting lanky farang, and then catch the train back up north to Chiang Mai. I ... read more

We took a ferry from Ko Lanta to Koh Jum, where you have to jump from the ferry onto a long tail boat to get to the island. There is not much on the island except the basics. We got a little hut in the back of the lot, it was actually pretty nice for 300 baht, expect the electricity only ran from around 7pm to around 5am. Thats when the fan turned off and the room started to heat up. So there was definetly no sleeping in there. On our first day we rented bicycles and rode into town. Which is about 30 huts lined up down a street. We managed to find some fruit and water though. The we biked across the island to the north, which was about 8km. We saw a lot ... read more
