So after we caught up on sleep from our noisy, cold train journey that arrived into Chiang Mai at 4am we headed into the old walls around 9am. It’s a great atmosphere, lots of shops, cafes, restaurants and cheap massage parlours. We visited all the temples inside the wall as they’re all fairly close together. To say they’re beautiful would be an understatement.
We had breakfast in the cafe called "In the woods" all decorated like little red riding hood stuff was really pretty and food was cheap and tasty.... first cup of good coffee in Thailand so far!!
We ate lunch in a little open restaurant inside the walls, we both had fruit shakes, shares a spicy papaya salad and then had chicken pad Thai for main: delicious an all for under £4.50. We headed back to the hostel to get out of the sun for most of the afternoon.
About 7pm, we headed out to the main street running through the walls-Ratchadamneon. We ate in a little restaurant next to a place playing live music. Such a lovely place-definitely on the list to come back
to and stay longer! The guy in the restaurant gave us a map and showed us how to get to the night market. It was about 1.5km from where we were, so we walked pasted all the shops, bars and lady of the night area. At the market I could have bought EVERYTHING!!! I settled with a colourful pillowcase, a clutch bag, some earrings, a couple of little purses for presents and a little pink tie dye card that I may frame when we get back. There was a lot more that we both wanted, so we’re going to go back tomorrow night J
We got back in about 10.30pm and Neil then realised he has forgotten his rucksack with chargers and kindle in it, we had left it at the restaurant hours before. He ran back to find it…luckily they had found it and put it a side for him: phewww. Neil has done 12 miles today now!!!
Settling down for bed now-our tour to Chiang Rai picks us up at 7.15am. Excited!!!
Good night love V&N xxxx
