All-in-all, I think Chiang Mai is a great city. Perfect to visit for just under a week. There are lots of different tours you can take, and even take the first day or so to shop around for prices. Looking back, we were supremely spoiled by the room we had at the guest house there...it was so nice! Oh well, I guess it was good to start out on a high note. I really enjoyed the layout of the old city and thought there were some great things to see all around -- I loved that the streets didn't have too much of a grid feeling and in some parts you could just wander around and sort of get lost in the atmosphere. The markets were fun to walk through too, and it was nice to have the night bazaar because you could go back for something the next night if you really wanted it or figured out it was the best price. Food was good, varied, and people were pretty nice. I would definitely recommend this town as a visit for all sorts of people be it families, singles, gays, straights, old, young, conservative, liberal, etc. There's something there for everyone I think.
