Aloitetaampa tama selitys vaikka eilisesta paivasta. Lahdimme aamulla hyvissa ajoin kavelemaan kohti bussiasemaa. Emme jaksaneet alkaa tappelemaan tuktuk kuskien kanssa kyydin hinnasta, joten piruuttamme paatimme kavella. Kuskit olivat Vientianessakin oppineet huutelemaan meidan peraamme ''tuk tuk?" Eivat he silti niin hyokkaavia olleet, kuten usein taalla Thaimaa... read more

Sa-Wat-Dee Krap!!!!! .....I crossed the border by land from Vientiane, Laos to Nong Khai, Thailand through the Thai-Lao friendship bridge, one of the reasons i stopped here was to visit a guesthouse that had Yoga, Meditation & Astrology seminars. The town itself didn't really touched me, i am still trying to understand what happened to me during my stay here, ever since i got to this place, my body felt heavy, i felt like if something or someone was sucking up all my energy. This is by far one of the strangest experiences i have had until now. ....On the other hand, I had a wonderful time hanging out with Matteo, a good road friend from Australia, and visiting the beautiful "Sala Kaewkoo park", which is described as a surreal spiritual and sculptural journey into the ... read more

Firstly folks apologies for taking so long to update the blog. I meant to do it a couple of days ago, but went down with a little bit of a cold and faced with a fifteen minute walk into town, in the heat and humidity or relaxing on our little house boat watching the world go by sipping drinks - well you know which option won out!!! And I've still got my little cold so I'm getting a little fed up!!! Anyway I digress so back to what I'm here for an update! We arrived Bangkok - WOW - what a difference!!! The airport is huge, no stopping for visas! Straight into a brand new air con taxi and whisked away to our desired location. Everywhere is so clean, so western, so neon .... so everything ... read more

The arrival of Neil (Carter) led to a couple of nights out in the re-nowed areas of Patpong and Soi-Cowboy in Bangkok. However, both mine and Carl's taste are very different to Neil's as the first bar he choose was a full on 'gay bar' with male couples sat outside having a couple... I quietly had to mention this to Neil and Carl as neither of them had noticed this in the first minute or so.... The second night was a bit safer as we met up with Neil's friends Harry (female) and Dave from his teaching days in Kenya. We left the dizzy heights of Bangkok and got the train to Pitsanoluk and spent a day looking round the historical ruins of Sukhothai. It was here that we had our first heavy thunder & lightening ... read more

Once again sorry for the delay. Now to Tell you about the home stay - this is a long one!! On Saturday June the 6th the directory of the school "Pawha" came to pick me up. His English was much worst than the family I had just stayed with but he was extremely friendly. He and his wife took me to the store which was a massive “Tescos" and I stocked up on essentials such as toilet paper, 100 kinds of mosquito repellant, and a Thai cell phone. By the way anyone is welcome to call me if you get an international calling card. My Number from America is 011 66 8 4475 2851 keep in mind I am 11 hours ahead!! It’s been a while since I’ve posted mainly because it is a headache to get on the internet here. We just arrived in Nong Khai this evening via Sukkhothai from Chiang Mai. Our last days in Chiang Mai were celebrated in style with late nights out before we moved on and separated from the architecture students. Sukkhothai was our next stop on the journey. Sukkhothai was the first capital of Thailand and now it is in ruins but still very impressive to visit. The picture upload on this site is really slow so if you want to check out my pictures go to picasaweb.google.com/maayankb also check out my friends pictures at picasaweb.google.com/carly.koenig. Sorry for the short postings I’m just having too much fun. PS I have postcards for everyone who gave me an address I just ... read more

I'm moving on... After almost two months in Thailand I will be moving over the Mekong into Laos. I have been resting in Nong Khai at Richard's house for the past ten days. Nothing but good company, good food and the feeling of home. Thai New Year's started a couple of days after I arrived in Nong Khai and the celebrations lasted four days. On the morning of the first day, Richard hosted a typical Thai ceremony full of New Years blessings. The ceremony began at 7 am when the monks arrived to chant. Once the morning chant was completed, the attendants, all villagers from Richard's town, proceeded to share their food with the monks by placing portions of their food into some beautiful rattan baskets. I was invited to participate in the sharing of the ... read more

Yesterday, Sharon & I road Nang's Motorbike out of Nong Khai, following the Mekong SE through some small villages. Everyone was smiling, waving & shouting out to us as we road by. We also got the usual Songkran soaking as we rode around. Whilst stopping for a drink, an old man approached us & started to chat. He explained that he was a Captain in the Laos Army during the Vietnam War. After a long chat, he told us that most of the villagers were 3 KM away on the beach, so we decided to go & have a look. There was about 300-400 people all dancing, bathing in the river, or eating at one of the many stalls. We were the only foreigners there, & when they saw us the compare announced it over the ... read more

I'm back in Nong Khai with Richard, having a wonderful rest from hostels and guest houses and preparing for both the Thai New Year and my move to a different country. Here are some of the pictures from my stay in Chiang Mai... I took a cooking class and that is some of what I made. The rest are pictures from a temple I visited outside the city. ... read more
