Woke after a good nights sleep and made my way down to the port (10 mins away) to catch a boat to the mainland, then a 2 1/2 minibus ride down the coast to catch another boat out to ko Chang ( i thought there would be a boat connecting the 2 - but no!!!) chatted with a nice German girl called iris on the boat to ko Chang who is fluent in English - so we shared some funny stories, it definitely helped to pass the time. As soon as you arrive you get collared by taxi drivers wanting you to hire them. They squeezed 12 people into the back of an open pick up truck and we were on our way! The island has one road which runs around its perimeter and which is ... read more

Exotic, yet safe and easy; cheap, yet equipped with every modern amenity you might ever need, there is something for every interest, demographic and price bracket in Thailand. Yet despite the heavy flow of tourist traffic, the story goes, Thailand still manages to retain that quintessential Thai-ness, even in the most touristed of areas. Thais are known for their stereotypically carefree attitude, where everything is sanook and sabai (fun and easygoing) and the tourist industry is keen to adopt the mantle “Land of Smiles.” Rightly or wrongly, Thailand seems more than happy to accommodate every tourist idiosyncrasy. Yet as anyone familiar with the culture will tell you, just because a Thai smiles, doesn’t necessarily mean they’re happy; they are just as likely to feel uncomfortabl... read more

Moving on from the quiet riverside town of Chanthaburi, I made my way towards Thailand's third largest island of Koh Chang (Elephant Island), which lies along the Eastern Gulf. From Chanthaburi, it would be a 1h minibus first to Trat, then a 30 min sawng thaew (pick-up truck) transfer to the pier at Laem Ngop, before a short 30 min ferry cruise to the island itself. That it was the rainy (and therefore low) season was very apparent. Probably not even particularly crowded even during the high season, the few main streets that encircle the island were mostly deserted. Even the main drag in the White Sands area was quite devoid of people, even in mid-day. I was probably one of just a few customers having breakfast at Monkeys Bar every morning, so much that the ... read more

Well my last stop on my Asia tour has taken me to the ultra tourist hotspot.......this blog will be about the 3 places I visited in Thailand.... Bangkok, I arrived in Bangkok after a wild and confrontational minibus ride from the border of Cambodia. With respect to the blogs and misguided info on the changes to the G-7 land border agreement in regards to whether it is still in effect for us to get 30 days by land or reverted back to the 15 days it once was....it is indeed still in effect and passport holders of the G-7 countries are permitted 30 days visa free from land borders into Thailand. Back to the confrontation part, I met a guy from Australia who was also a teacher, a bit older than me and pretty cool, we ... read more

Day one – travel to ko chang from Bangkok hotel, slept in the van most of the way, got off the van when on the ferry, then back on, once on island only took a short time to get to the hotel. It was still songkran and there was a massive queue to get off the island. We were a tad too early to check in, had a small look around, had the worlds nicest juice when we checked in, locked our bags away Rach got her and Mias swimming stuff on then headed to look at the pool and beach. We stayed in The KC Grand Resort. http://www.kckohchang.com/ oh my word, it’s the nicest place I have ever stayed in. there were two infinity pools and two others, a water slide, a spa, take a ... read more

Today was the first day in our trip that the group didn't have any concrete plans. Some people decided to go scuba diving, but I decided to chill out with some others by the beach and explore the city. I met up with a few people to go to the beach and decided to be a piece of meat and attempt to get tanned. Before doing so, I walked south for about 2 miles on the shores and the island is just a giant paradise. There are vendors that sell beers, water, food, right on the beach. The waters are crystal clear and somewhat clean. I took some pictures (see pictures) and I'll definitely be submitting these photos to Corona, and ask them to use my photographs in their commercials. I need some reimbursements for this ... read more

Oct 21 2013 Well after waking up about 8am and getting a good 12 hours of sleep we decided to head up the road to rent some mopeds for the day. After walking up the road and not being too sure where the place was we walked back to our hostel to double check with Baz, one of the guys working at the Shiralea. By the Baz is an awesome English guy. Anyway, so we double checked with him, but right as we were walking away he asked if we wanted a couple of girls to tag along with us. There were a couple of American gals that were looking to rent some mopeds but had never done it before and were not feeling too confident to rent them on there own. Well we were of ... read more

After an emotionally thoughtful and bittersweet ride to the airport, Jason parked his car near Terminal C. We moved as one pulling the luggage out of the car and made our way to the gate, carefully avoiding any negative feelings that might arise. Fourteen months apart will be hard1, but neither can deny how outstanding it feels to know that when this adventure concludes, the adventure we had both spent our lives searching for would finally unfold. I am coming home. Finally, finally, home. When I come home, we will be together forever. At the baggage register, a classic Michelle moment: I had forgotten to weigh my bag. Classic Jason moment: he paid for it without batting an eye. We embraced at the security line, saving up for our first few months apart. It feels oddly easy ... read more

Oct 20 2013 Well today blended right into yesterday and the night, since we spent a good 12 hours on an overnight bus ride. I really hope the we don't have to do it again. Not only was the bus full but there was barely any leg room and it was a struggle to fall asleep. I really only got to sleep maybe 3 hours if I am lucky. We got to stop once for about an hour at midnight, where we were able grab some food, which was not that good. At that point I was in a bad place and was ready for the bus ride to be over with. The next 6 hours on the bus was not any better. Our next stop was a transfer station where we waited for about 2 ... read more
