Day 12. Started the blog early today, only 7-30 am and not breakfasted yet. We are going to explore the East side of the island which is much less developed so will let you know what we discover later.

Thanks to those who have commented so far.

A very different day today as we head south down the eastern seabord side of the island. The eastern coast is totally different from the west in as much as it is still very underdeveloped and quite wild.

There are few visitors, the roads are deserted and we discover quiet little fishing villages.

When we visied Koh Chang two years' ago, the Wat Salak Phet was undergoing building works. The restoration is now complete and is quite beautiful. The wat was constructed during the reign of King Rama V - and there is a fine statue of him in the grounds.

Although fishing is probably the principal economy of this part of the island, we saw plenty of white plastic trees, fields of pineapple, mango, jack fruit, banana and coconut. One enterprising chap was making from coconut shells - and then selling - soap dishes, jewellry, chimes, lightshades, lamps and ornaments.

Lunch was one of those lucky finds. We were ready for a beer and stopped at a small local bar-restaurant on the shore. It opened into a large dining area with amazing sea view, with fabulous sea breeze, tranquil and clean. Menus arrived and we all enjoyed a feat of squid, crab, fish and prawns prepared and cooked in different ways. Ice cream for dessert and we were all as happy as larry.

We meandered our way back to the villa, and leapt into the pool.

Happiness is this.

Sounds like an idyllic day! You must be so relaxed. How big is the island? There appear to be very few people.
