Super early start (for a change!) and we got in a taxi to take us to the airport where we were catching an express mini bus which would take us directly to our hotel right on the beach at Koh Chang (direct translation - elephant island) We got in the taxi and the driver said 400baht to the airport. I instantly told him to stop the car and said we wanted to get out unless he turned on the meter. He looked a little deflated but having had many people try their best to rip us off over the past few weeks we knew what was what. At the airport the meter read 200 baht and when we handed over the money he asked for a 200 baht tip as he had "looked after us with the meter" he got 20 and we walked away.

The express bus was a standard coach once again filled with Chinese and Dutch families. I don't think Koh Chang is much of a part island. The journey was long and noisy and we were a bit miffed when, in the pouring rain, our bags were dropped off at a cafe and we were left stood near the docks not quite sure what was going on. A Chinese girl with perfect English explained that we had to walk to the boat and then we would be picked up on the island and taken to our hotel for there. It was confusing and pouring down so we just tagged along figuring if we got to the island we would be able to muddle through to our hotel ourselves.

Eight modes of transport later we were at our hotel room and exhausted and very hungry. The set up at our hotel is a bit weird. It's a 4* right on the beach but the staff are awful. They are so disinterested in anyone and they couldn't wait to get rid of us. Our room is nice with a view right out to sea. The hotel is so vast that we have to get a cable car to breakfast and the lobby is a 5 minute walk through the jungle. We are so excited for a holiday day tomorrow rather than a traveler day. Fingers crossed the rain stops and we can enjoy this beautiful beach and amazing (I presume) view.
