Couldn't face a cold water shower this morning, so was up and dressed by 8.00, went and had a spot of breakfast and sat on the end of the pier waiting for the 9.00 boat to Ko Mak. Before the old wooden boat came along, a rather sexy looking speed boat sidled up to the pier to drop off some passengers - couldn't resist having a go, so on i climbed and for only 100 baht more i was off to Ko Mak! Was a bumpy and rather fun ride across the ocean and got me there a little wind swept but in 20 minutes. So headed to the first resort i came across, which again very similar to Ko Wai had wooden beach huts although slightly more upmarket with bathrooms ( still only cold water showers tho!) i booked myself in for one night - only 600 baht and went for a wander. I found a nice cliff top bar with a fantastic view over the bay and had a drink, then a 3km walk cutting across the island from north to south to find some more beaches and a few more shops and restaurants. I had some lunch and kept myself hydrated with fruit shakes ( they sell them everywhere from market stalls - all variety of fruits blended with ice for around 40 baht - 1 pound! they are a bargain and are delicious!) Found a couple of beautiful wooden piers, a temple, lots of beach and lovely clear waters on the island. On the walk back to my hut i hitchhiked a lift on the back of a pick up truck for free which saved my legs a further 3km! After a hr or so chilling on the beach i walked along to the end of it to see Ko Maks oldest house - a large wooden colonial house that one of the kings used to frequent - apparently! then back along to the other end to watch the sun set and while doing so chatted to Gary - a man in his 70's from belfast whos been coming to the island for the past 14yrs - so knows a bit about it! In the evening i booked my speed! boat ticket for tomorrow to take me back to the mainland, a bit of a longer journey this one taking 50 mins, and sat at a nice beach front restaurant eating Papaya salad ( with one chilli - which was still hot but the waitress telling me she would have it with 20 chillies!!!) Wrote up my blog and off to bed......
