Hi Everyone,
The over night sleeper train arrived into Hua Lamphong, Bangkok about 6.30am. As usual it’s not the best night sleep on a train because it’s quite noisy, this one as well was FREEZING, even Neil thought the AC was ridiculously cold.
We caught a tuk tuk to Khao San Road, for 100 baht (slight rip off) but never mind. When we were there a guy asked if we were buying onward transport (which we were to the NP) so he advised us to get in a tuk tuk to the place where we could buy a bus ticket. He was overly pushy, which made me feel uncomfortable, I said to Neil we could just walk away to walk about our options as the bus ticket area isn’t going anywhere, but Neil argued that we need to buy a ticket and they might get sold out. As it turned out this place the tuk tuk took us to didn’t sell bus tickets-so we had to pay to get back to the same road we had just come from. Needless to say I was a little bit cross at Neil for not listening to me……
Once we were back on Khao San Road we got a bit of breakfast and then headed to the second suit fitting. All seems good so they are going to post those back to the UK.
We then headed back to the train station in a taxi (as it always seems to be cheaper than a tuk tuk set price!!!). Once there we bought cheap 3
rd class tickets to Pat Chong. The journey felt long and it was quite hot, but after the four hour journey we were met buy a driver from Bobby’s apartments and jungle tours. We had found them in Lonely planet, which gave them good reviews, so I emailed the guy Mike who runs the place to book us in for two nights and for the 1.5 day tour that they had detailed on their website. We arrived about 2.30pm, we had the £2/night/person dorm-to ourselves though which always feels like a bargain! We had 30 minutes to have a sit down before going straight out on a 5 hour tour……we were knackered and still hadn’t had lunch. We had originally planned to do the full day tour tomorrow and
then the half a day tour the following day but Mike had other ideas. It did mean though that we would leave a day earlier and have that extra day in Siem Reap.
The half day tour included the following:
-a trip to the natural spring in the area
-a temple
-a bat cave
-watching millions of bats fly out of the cave at dusk
-fruits
-English speaking tour guide
-all transport
All for £6!! We were on the tour with 5 other people, 4 Germans and 1 guy from Chile. Most of the conversation was in German so we couldn’t understand, but they were considerate most of the time and spoke English so we could join in.
We forgot to take our camera-think it was because we were sleepy zombies when we left, so we don’t have any pictures. We are hoping to get emailed some from our new German friends…
When we got back to the hostel, we had dinner with everyone. The meals are all prepared on site as the surrounding area doesn’t have much to offer (especially
without transport) but the meals are great at the hostel and cheap. Shortly after the food we all headed to bed-early start of 6.30am tomorrow for the full 12 hour tour of Park Khao Yai National park.
