Hello from a very warm Bangkok!

We got here about 3pm Sunday after a really nice flight. We managed to negotiate the train and tuk tuk system to find our hostel (actually very easy - most things are translated). Our hostel, Khaosan Baai Thai, is lovely. Really pretty rooms with free breakfast, complete with toast with smiley faces on!

Sunday night we were pretty tired so we headed for the Khoa San Road for a quick drink. Found a lovely bar on an adjacent road and just sat there for a while watching the world go by. It was absolutely chucking it down with rain - Ive never seen rain so heavy! But it was so warm that it was strangely relaxing to sit and listen to.

Yesterday we went round lots of temples. We were told that it was some kind of special Buddhist day so all the temples were open to the public for free! We decided to take advantage of this and spent the day walking / tuk tuking around and looking at temples. My favourite was the Golden Mountain; a temple with steps all the way around it. There are about 400 steps which ascend circling the temple and then, at the top, is a shrine and a statue with Buddhas relics in it. You can see for miles - we spent ages just looking at the view.

Today we went to the Grand Palace. We're not quite sold on the decoration (a bit over the top) and it was very touristy but we both enjoyed the Thai artwork and the Emerald Buddha. I liked the stone animals everywhere - Joe was not so impressed. Mum - I managed to find the lion with the ball in its mouth! It says hi. We saw the changing of the guards and wandered about until we decided that the heat had got too much and we went to collapse in a cafe 😊

Having a fantastic time here - will keep you all posted with more news.

Animal of Monday: Small baby rabbit on the Khao San Road dressed in an orange dress..

Animal of Tuesday: Large reptile (possible Komodo dragon) type thing swimming in the canal - definitely not a snake (it had legs) and definitely not a crocodile (it didnt have a snout) - it had a blue tongue.. we're not quite sure what it was!

I'll put up pictures later xx
