Verena from Germany
The first daughter that I aquired, or did she aquire me? The Getting of Wisdom and Daughters.
This time in India is quite different than the last, as instead of giving I am getting - daughters and knowledge!
The first daughter was Verena, a German girl I met in Coimbatore.
She was looking for a quick fix to her problems, but found a suspect Guru and me instead. Neither of which I believe sorted out her problems - I tried to tell her only she could do that, but I like to think that I helped in a small way and I can guarantee I was more use than the charismatic swami.
She still calls me now and then and says how she loves to hear my happy voice and misses me. Maybe we shall catch up again sometime, or maybe she will find happiness and forget me. Let’s hope for the latter.
The next two daughters came together although they didn’t know each other.
Lonavla was where I met these two lovely ladies. Shilpa, from Mumbai and I were roomies. Six weeks, 24/7 together so we got to know each other pretty well. She was a delight
Lovely Elka from Belgium.
Elka and me at Kaivalyadharma, looking far too cool! and would not let me clean the room no matter what, although I did manage a quick wipe over of the bathroom. We studied together and she insisted that I would learn all the Sanskrit words when I said I couldn’t - and she was right, I did and I calmed her worries over the exams and got a timetable of study together. This relaxed her a bit. We were a good team. We met again in her home town of Mumbai and she showed me around royally. She and he family are wonderful people and I hope we shall always remain good friends despite the distance between us.
Then there was Elke from Belgium, older than her years and exceedingly wise.
Elke is so wise for her age that she must be an old sole, in fact I think we must have known each other in a past life. We got on like friends even with the 30 year age difference. It didn’t bother her or me. We had a wonderful excursion to Pune together with the Japanese boys, shared long conversations together and just felt totally comfortable in each others company.
Shilpa and two other lovely Indian girls on the course.
Lovely Shilpa in the middle was my room mate while doing the yoga course. She rang me from the airport to say goodbye when she was leaving India. I do hope to see her again.
Francesca from Italy I met in Rishikesh.
Now she and I just HAVE to have known each other before. We shared rooms in Delhi, Kathmandu, Naudanda and Pokhara and didn’t have one cross word. I even spoke to her mother and father on Skype. They felt happy that she had met a sensible older person to travel with - they don’t know me very well!
In a friends house in a village above Pokhara we even shared a single bed on the floor together when both of us were too afraid to sleep in the double bed down stairs. The giant spider on the wall spooked both of us out, although I was the only one to scream.
Francesca was wonderful company and I miss her now that she is trekking with some friends of mine, but I’m sure she is having a wonderful experience which I am also sure she will share with me when she gets back.
Great news, Francesca and I will be meeting up in Singapore and then
Francesca from Italy
Sharing an Everest beer or two on our first night in Kathmandu. will be flying to Bali together.
This has been some year and there is still two months to go. Still time for another daughter or two!!!
Although we all know that there is only one number 1 daughter, my darling, beautiful Lauren.
