What else is new!? Good food and drink
The big news for today was to make it to our train in the evening for our trip to Chiang Mai.

We walked around Bangkok, enjoying more wonderful food and Thai Iced Teas and Coffees.

We had our hotel arrange a taxi to take us to the train station, but all they could get as a tuk tuk. We negotiated a lower price, and took off, zooming our way into the rush hour traffic of Bangkok. Nothing is worse than Chinese rush hour, but it was still pretty bad here, especially in a tuk tuk where we could practically feel the cars next to us, inches away.

The train station in Bangkok is large and beautiful, offering many things to buy as well. With time to spare, we decided to go upstairs for a drink and a wonderful view of the station below. At 6pm, over a loud-speaker, the Thai National Anthem is broadcasted. To show respect, everyone pauses what they're doing, stands up, and in silence appreciates the song. Needless to say, we were completely dumbfounded, not sure what was going on once it all began. Apparently this happens several times a day at large areas like

A fun ride to the train station!
train stations, post offices, etc.

We boarded our train, and immediately could tell the difference between first class and the second class cabins we were on this time around. Luckily, these second class cabins were comfortable, and we still had plenty of room.

It got pretty crowded however, so it was nice to get on early and store our belongings.

Again, we watched a movie on my computer. This time, we watched The Lovely Bones, based on the book with the same title. The book according to Staci is definitely recommended, but the movie not so much--for a review that I found spot on Click HERE .

As for sleeping, Staci had the top bunk. She would tell you how much she wishes she made me take it. She did not sleep well at all because they had the lights turned on the entire night.

Here's how we fit. It was interesting to watch the workers come by and make these into beds, flipping the top bunk up and down.

The anthem
They play the national anthem right before movies, too. Everyone in the theater stands respectfully. When I did it, only foreigners were in the theater, no nationals. And--it was nice to see--everyone stood quietly. :)
