Hi, my readers, I’m back….I’ve been busy working, running, and cooking in the last few weeks on my own in
Chiang Mai. After talking to a bunch of foreign friends and asked them a lot of questions. I came up with a new article about the reasons why expats love living in Thailand and I can’t wait to share this piece with you guys. Enjoy reading and let me know what do you guys think!
If you have ever dreamed of being your own boss and living out your days on your own terms, that goal is closer to becoming reality than ever before. The days of relying on an employer for your livelihood can be over for good. Thousands of people every year are choosing to ditch the 9-5 traditional workday in order to freelance and work for themselves. In fact, the most difficult part of becoming a digital nomad might just be deciding where to put down your roots. It is a great big world out there, after all, with many exciting things to see and do. There is, of course, the practical side to consider as well, including actually being able to make a
living. Thailand has emerged as one of the best destinations in the world for digital nomads, and here are five reasons why.
Good Medical Care
Thailand is gaining worldwide recognition for the quality of its healthcare services. The standard of medical care in Thailand is good. The cost of treatment in Thailand is lower than in the United States or Europe. According to
CEOWORLD, which published the list in 2019, Thailand was among the few Asian countries which managed to enter the top 10 in 2019, along with South Korea in second place and Japan in third place. European countries dominate the list, with Austria leading in fourth place, followed by Denmark (5th), Spain (7th), France (8th) and Belgium (9th). From dental care, and surgeries to new alternative treatments for Migraine (like the one
provided by BTX migraine centre), people around the world travel to Thailand for medication because of the growing quantity of certified physicians and new technologies.
Low Cost of Living
Many people wonder how to become a digital nomad. It takes some hard work at the beginning and trust in yourself that you can make a decent living at it. It
involves finding something that you enjoy doing and then running with it. In the beginning, having an inexpensive place to call home is desirable, and Thailand definitely fits that bill. Condo rentals in the capital of Bangkok can be had for $300-$500 a month. This will get you a comfortable place in the heart of the city, complete with air conditioning, a pool, and a gym. While rooms near the beach resort of Phuket might be a bit more expensive, they will still be affordable when compared to other seaside cities in the world. Food is incredibly good and cheap, newly released movies can be seen for $3, and taxis start at just a buck. What more can a digital nomad really ask for or expect?
Sizeable Expat Community
If you are wondering how to make money as a nomad, just look around the major cities of Thailand. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and other regions of the countries are filled with hundreds of ex-pats making a living working for themselves. There are networking groups to take part in, as well as various clubs and activities designed to get ex-pats connected with one another. Living in Thailand
as a digital nomad, you will be encouraged by the many other ex-pats that have shed their corporate life in exchange for living out one’s dreams. This will provide you with the motivation to get through those tough months should they come.
Internet Accessibility
As you work and travel in Thailand, the Internet is readily available, cheap, and fast. This is essential to the life of a digital nomad, and Thailand Internet really makes working online a reality. Startups in Thailand are popping up every day, and Internet access throughout the region is making this possible. There are several major providers throughout the country, with packages well under $30 a month in most locations.
Availability of Co-working Spaces
There are times when digital nomads need to be around others in order to bounce ideas off of one another and to be motivated to get the job done. Co-working space in Bangkok is available, inexpensive, and provides great access to the tools and resources that a digital nomad requires to do his or her job effectively. A shared office space in Bangkok enables you to have a quiet environment in which to do
your work while maintaining access to meeting rooms and a productive space that encourages creativity and ingenuity.
Thailand Schools
Thailand's schools are among the best in the world, and if you are planning to move there with your children, then you will find that it is an excellent place for education. The country has many international schools which are recognized by western countries. Not only are the schools recognized, but they are also accredited. If you are planning to move with your children and are worried about the quality of education, then you can rest assured that your children will get one of the best educations in the world. They also have Waldorf Montessori with a well-equipped Waldorf classroom for kids who are interested in nature and the outdoors. If your children love to be outdoors and love animals, then this is the school for them. Check out
Wonder Valley, a holistic school in Hat Yai for example. The education is holistic and is based on the child's needs.
The quality of education you can expect from these schools is excellent. It is also very affordable, so you will not have to worry about the cost of sending your children to a private school for their education.
Natural Beauty
Many people who work in Bangkok remark at the beauty of the surrounding area. From the beaches of the south to the mountains in the north, there is something for everyone in Thailand. Beyond the beauty, there is much to do in your free time. From regularly scheduled golf outings with locals and expats alike to a night at the bar with new and old friends, every moment of your day will remind you why you chose this lifestyle.
There are many more reasons why Thailand has become such a popular country for digital nomads, but you get the picture. The people are friendly, the infrastructure and technology ripe for productivity, and the cost of living is low. If you are looking to get away from the 9-5 lifestyle and live life on your own terms, consider Thailand as a place to set up shop.
