THE PHYSICAL CHALLENGE: From Sary Tash, Kyrgyzstan, I climbed up to 4285m of altitude to reach the Tajik border. It was very tough. Of course I was on a dirt road, alone, and carrying heavy bags (more than 50kg) with 7 liters of water ... Read Full Entry

a fellow biker!

it used to be just such..
In soviet times most bikes didn't have any wires :) this has one for back wheel hand brakes, and seems new. But what we had mostly was no gears and the only brakes were when you push pedals backwards (i am sure this has that too), it would immediately stop turning back wheel. Of course, i can't imagine it for the long trip, but who knows, may be smbd tried that too :) It was durable bikes and even i knew how to fix most things:)

sometimes I dont get white people
This is crazy and fascinating. Depressing yet exciting. I'd love to do maybe a day or two of this. But two days without talking/seeing anyone would drive me nuts. "At the end of August I had 2 days where I didn’t run into a single person in 48 hours. You wouldn’t believe how fresh the air felt and how blue the sky was." I never expected the second sentence to come after the first. I expected drama to follow that. Safe travels mate!

Speakless
Dear Jeremy, we are speakless about your breathtaking adventure. We still follow your blog. In January we will cycle 9 weeks through Tasmania and the south part from Australia. We guess, it will be easier than it was in China, because of the language. But our sleeping wish is still in us: to cycle from Kirgistan to Beijing. We will see....Now we can follow your journy, that's the easiest way to cycle throug... ;-) Keep care of you and all the best from Edith and Hans

Thanks for keeping in touch!
great to hear from you! I m leaving Bishkek tomorrow. I will head towards Kazakhstan and then Tashkent, Uzbekistan. I hope I won't find too much snow on the way. Can't wait to follow your trip in Tasmania. Take good care of yourself! May the wind be on your back!
