The are two options to head east from Dushanbe: "North" via the actual Pamir Highway is the more direct route, though the road condition is worse and it crosses a very high pass. Which way which road? All the better for you guys if you can score a driver with no English it seems. This way then...the rougher more remote the better! Ah...warms the heart...must be our antipodean spirits!

Universal language
No need for English speaking as long as he can drive. Being an excellent driver is truly the only requirement for the Pamir Highway!!!
