A short flight from Naha International Airport brought me back to the doorsteps of Taiwan this morning. In contrast to the bright blue skies that greeted me in Naha, Taipei was shrouded by haze as my plane made its final descend at the CKS International Airport. Since I was too early for check-in at the city hotel, I took a short shuttle service #705 to Taoyuan High Speed Rail where the Gloria Outlets were located. Perhaps it was a weekday morning when I visited, there were literally no crowds. I had read online that the prices at the Gloria Outlets did not come cheap. My visit proved the point as I came out from there empty handed. I had my lunch at the foodcourt though - Taiwanese fried bee hoon, thick soup and cabbages for NT 140. That did not disappoint actually.

From Taoyuan, I took a High Speed Rail to Taipei Main Station where it made a brief stop at Banqiao Station on the way. I was soon making my way to City Inn Taipei Station Branch 1 along Huaining Street. I had previously stayed at this hotel in August 2008 during my first overseas solo trip so it was quite straight forward to find my way. The hotel did not seem to have aged a single bit and the service was consistent throughout my 3 nights stay with the property.

After freshening up a bit in my room, I made my way to Ximending in search of the Japanese Pharmaceutical Museum. Tucked away in a not-so-touristy corner, the small museum is located on the upper floors of an existing pharmacy. The museum is not big but there were plenty of photo-taking opportunities which depicted a street scene of old Japan. The lighting was a bit dim though which posed some challenges when taking photographs using my Samsung S4.

After the museum visit, I proceeded to the Red House Theatre to browse through some of the indie art pieces on sale. It was a nice place to soak in the atmosphere in a non-commercial setting. For dinner, I headed straight to the New York Bagels @ Q Square. This is one place that I had always wanted to patronise during my previous visits and I'm glad to strike that one from of my bucket list today. I ordered the sumptuous breakfast set that was rather huge in portion. For sure, this visit to the New York Bagels did not disappoint and my day turned out pretty okay despite the slow start earlier.
