It's Sunday afternoon and I just got back not long ago from a quick trip to Taipei. Myself as well as 4 other friends decided to get away from school for the weekend, and what a weekend it was! We packed a lot into less than 48 hours. It all started Friday afternoon after classes. We left not long after classes ended. After getting to Taipei, we checked in at our hostel and headed over to Taipei 101. We got back pretty late from Taipei 101, so we went straight back to the hostel.
On Saturday we slept in (until 8:30 for the girls, 10 am for the guys) and then made our way to Fort San Domingo. It was originally built during Dutch colonization and then taken over by the British. It isn't the original fort, as that burnt down, but it was still a very interesting sight. Then we walked around on the pier type area for a couple hours, buying souvenirs and heading down less tourist-y streets to get a good look at the culture there. After meeting up with the other half of our group (who'd been doing other things all day) we headed over to Fisherman's

Wharf, which we heard had a night market. Well, there was no night market and there really wasn't much to do, but it was still pretty there and we hung out and ate dinner there. There was also Lovers' Bridge down on the wharf as well. After the wharf, we split up again and 3 of us went in search of a foot massage place mentioned in the Lonely Planet guidebook. Though pretty pricey, it was a really fun and hilarious experience. It was a reflexology foot massage-where different points of your foot correspond to different organs. Tashi alternated between laughing very loudly and grumbling in pain the entire time. It was a bit painful, but I recommend it anyway! (It feels good, too!)
Sunday morning we had to be out of the hostel by 11 am, so 3 of us got up early and went to the Sun Yat-sen memorial museum. It was a quick trip, but very interesting. We also got a free English tour from this poor young guy who was having his first day on the job. We tried to be encouraging after it was over, and I hope we helped make his first day not

entirely frightening. We also saw the changing of the guard at the memorial museum. It's a very elaborate ritual that takes about 6 minutes and starts to appear more and more like a dance as it goes on. Again, I recommend this stop as well if you're ever in Taipei.

Not exciting looking, but definitely worth the trip.
