Sri Lanka is categorized as a Top tourist Destination in the world by many organizations and travel magazines. There are many reasons, 10 of them are mentioned below.

1. sigiriya – eighth wonder of the world
Sigiriya was named as the eighth wonder of the world by “UNESCO” because of its awesomeness. It was built by king Kasyapa in the year of 477 CE. He selected sigiriya rock as his kingdom and made it a perfect city. It’s recognized as a best example for ancient urban planning. The meaning of sigiriya
is “Lions’s Rock” and it has Lion’s paws made of Rocks at the entrance to the sigiriya. Some people argue that it’s not lion’s paws since it has only 3 paws. Anyway, the top of sigiri fortress is filled with water tanks, flower gardens, buildings, palaces,etc. Its a paradise on a rock. sigiri grafittis and its mirror wall are world famous heritage equipment s.
2. unawatuna- one of the best beaches in the world
Unawatuna is said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It’s located near galle in the south part of Sri Lanka and is famous for its corals, kadolana and the pagoda. This place is said to have some relationships with the famous Epic “Ramayanaya”. Some people say that the rhumassala rock which is located next to the beach is a part brought from himalaya- everest in india. In truth, some of the medicinal herbs and some plants which are found in the rhumassala rock are only found in himalaya and rhumassala. So these tales cannot be completely swept and there might be some truth in those stories. Great epic “Ramayanaya” mentions about a beach which has the shape of unawatuna.
Any Tourist who come to Sri Lanka doesn’t forget to come to unawatuna beach and feel its awesomeness.
3.yala- highest leopard density in the world
Yala national park is Sri lanka’s first national park and was established in 1900 during the reign of british. It is located in the dry zone of Sri Lanka, at the southeast side of Sri Lanka. there are some other national parks which are located adjacent to yala. Kumana national park (a bird sanctuary), Lunugamwehera national park and wilpaththu national park are some of them. this national park is famous for its leopard density and the elephants. there is no other place on earth to watch a large number of leopards in one place. When you go across yala in a safari jeep, elephants crossing the road will be a very common sight.
4. Arugambay- surfing capital
while surfing is the dominating tourist attraction here, lagoons, ancient temples and a major national park in Sri Lanka (kumana) draws thousands of tourists annually. this surf breaks have produced many surfers in Sri Lanka. the great sandy beach maximize the beauty of the surf breaks. this is also located
at the southeast part of Sri Lanka. You can ask a surfer how much they like arugambay.
5. Kandy perahera- most spectacular cultural event in asia
Kandy is the last kingdom of Sri Lanka and it’s where the sacred tooth relic is situated. once a year, Buddhists celebrate the greatness of the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha with a fascinating and spectacular cultural event called “kandy dalada perahera”. This is probably the most famous and most fantastic cultural event in whole Asia. It includes traditional dancing, worshiping methods and many other things that native to Sri Lanka. this kind of a pageant cannot be seen anywhere in the world. hundreds of Elephants are going in that pageant without any violent behavior. There’s a belief that the country will get rain when the kandy perahera is occurred even in a drought period.
6. Anuradhapura- Ancient ruins of a great civilization
There are only a handful of countries that have great civilization and a proud history which is more than 2500 years old. Sri Lanka s one of them and anuradhapura was the first kingdom capital of ancient Sri Lanka. King pandukabhaya was the
creator of this city. This city is full of ancient ruins, pagodas, shrines and an irrigation technology which impressed the modern engineers. Anuradhapura city holds the highest structure made out of brick in the ancient world. It’s Jethawanarama sthupa. It was one of the highest structures in the world at that time (before 2000 years). The sacred Jaya sri maha bodhi is also located inside Anuradhapura city. This sacred bo tree is the world’s oldest tree which is recorded in the books. Lord buddha attained Enlightment under the Sri maha bodhi which is the parent tree of Jaya Sri maha bodhi. the city is a paradise for historians.
