Bunu yaptıran Kıral Sri Wicrama göl kıyısına küçük bir saraycık kondu... read more

As the Sri Lankan adventure slowly moves towards finishing so to has my timeliness with this blog. I am now two days behind and writing this on the morning of our final day. There is an unspoken rule amongst us blog writers that all blogs must be completed prior to disembarking in your home country. Hence the two days covered here and what will probably be two days in the next posting. After our trip to Galle we decided upon a quieter day so a trip to the beach followed by a cooking class and dinner in the guest house. Tuk tuks to Polhena beach which was about 6km from Marissa so 15minutes by tuk. The staff at guest house said this was a beach favoured by local folk not so much by tourists but was ... read more

03.03.2014 - Day 2 Woke up from a well deserved 15 hours sleep!!! Boom we are now on Sri Lankan time!! Woke up to a power cut so not even the fan was working in the sauna, sweaty betty messes!!!! Freshened up and headed out to find a supermarket, never thought we would have to risk our lives to get some sun cream and razor blades! Zebra crossings in Sri Lanka are not the same as England!! Deano spotted a lovely old local lady crossing the road and decided to use her as a shield, as a result we made it back to our hotel safely, however we soon realised that our shopping bag had a hole in the bottom and only managed to get 1 of the 2 bottles of sun cream back safely, 430rps ... read more

02.03.2014 - Day 1 Heathrow to Colombo to Mount Lavinia Flight was delayed by 2.5 hours :-( . Dani slept pretty much thee whole way while Deano was wide awake on his own. Arrived at Colombo airport and changed money and got a taxi to the hotel. Thought the taxi was going to be 3000rps but quickly worked out that you get charged tax on top of everything so ended up paying 3828rps, rule number 1 - always check receipt before getting in pre arranged taxi!! Dropped our bags off in the sauna / room freshened up a little and headed down to what can only be described as the busiest beach this side of the Indian Ocean!! Walked through a lovely dark alley, across an actual train track and down some rocks to get on ... read more

Thursday 28th November: we’re on the road again; or more accurately in the air, Sri Lankan Airlines flight 504 Heathrow to Colombo to be exact. A convenient departure time of 9pm allowed for a leisurely day’s preparation and drive to Heathrow. So leisurely in fact that I unintentionally left my mobile phone in the car instead of bringing it with me as planned. The flight departed slightly late because, we were informed by the Captain, the crew transport had got stuck in a traffic jam in Kensington on their way to the airport. Obviously Sri Lanka Airlines spoil their staff rotten putting them in fancy hotels in Kensington instead of a B&B in Hounslow or Slough – like Cardiganshire International Airways would. The 10 hour flight was quite tiring because our seats didn’t have sufficient legroom ... read more

I left for LCCT at 07.30 on the airbus to get my flight at 11.20. The plane flew into Male in the Maldives, but unfortunately I stayed on the plane. In Sri Lanka airport, I waited an hour for Hayley and Dani to arrive. I was pumped to see them when they strolled into the waiting area. We found our pre booked driver who took us to our accommodation in Mount Lavinia. Arriving there pretty late, the lady welcomed us in and sat us down in the living room area. We advised her we were hungry and that we wanted to get settled in our room, so after the brief chat we took our bags upstairs. Hayley and I dumped our rucksacks on the bed, but she told us off for doing this (and brushed the ... read more
