As a feedback to my blog, Maggz suggested that I add more of my thoughts and feelings so that I am not just narrating. I’ve always been a little bit hesitant to share my thoughts and feelings because I enjoy listening more than sharing but since you guys are all so close to me, I have nothing to be shy about! I’m happy to be able to write about anything I want now instead of boring business plans so it’s fun again! This entry was inspired by the silence our group had in a discussion with our teacher. He asked a simple question, does anybody have a question or a comment? What followed after was a long silence by everyone. I believe lots of people were anticipating a questions from anybody to break the silence. Some ... read more

Alrighty! I’ve been in Sri Lanka for three days now and I must say that I really love this country so far. My mom and dad decided to tag along with me on the first section of my trip and I think it’s great. My dad is the OG adventurer so he’s even more spontaneous and crazy than me, I should learn from him before I depart on my own. The first day we spent it at the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo. It was a lot more sophisticated than I had originally thought it would be. They had solid infrastructure and pretty good restaurants. Sri Lanka was in constant civil war for the past 18 years until recently, it had finally ended. The past 6 months have been peaceful, meaning no more terrorist attacks. Swee ... read more

The Ancient Cities An early 6am start to my day and my driver Anish was ready and excited about the 2 day trip that he had planned for me. A few days before l had approached a few taxi drivers that operate around the hotel area, with a list of places that l wanted the see whilst in Sri Lanka. After being quoted some of the funniest prices for this trip, l spotted Anish who had taken me a few times into town. I give him the list and his quote, with a hotel room for the night including evening meal and breakfast was still expensive compared to India but in the previous week l had learnt that Sri Lanka is not India and nor are there prices. Our first stop after a 3 hour ... read more

HAPPEEEE BIRTHDAY MUM! :) x Helene's friends Claire and Nicola are lovely :) and they're mad enough to take me with them on a 2day action-packed adventure around Sri Lanka. I'm a little over-excited about having travel companions for a change! We're on a bit of a mission to take in half of Sri Lanka in a very short space of time. In about 36hours we're squashing in some of Sri Lanka's finest sights including ancient Sigiriya, the Dambulla rock caves, and the amazing annual Kandy Perehera festival (a massive street parade with about a thousand Kandian dancers and about 60 elephants). There's no time for sleep on this trip. We take the train from Colombo up to Kandy which is a lovely relaxing trip. The rocking of the train makes you want to sleep but ... read more

Colombo to Dambulla Just before midnight we arrived at Sri Lanka's only international airport, north of Colombo, where we were met by Ervin Alphonso - our driver and guide for the next seventeen days. Twenty minutes drive from the airport is the coastal resort of Negombo and we received a warm welcome at the pleasant, minimalist Beach Hotel where we were soon tucked up in bed in our large room overlooking the pool and - through the silhouetted palm trees - the moonlit beach and the Indian Ocean. For thirty years I had been telling myself that I must visit Sri Lanka, but it was the relocation of our friends Ashleigh and Yves Ogier from London to Kandy that provided us with the impetus to actually go. And here we finally were, about to embark on ... read more
