My blogs are too infrequent to have a central theme, so here's a plethora of pictures of the past month or so. I know some of you back home wanted to see more pictures of exactly where I live, so I sort of cleaned the place up and shot a few. The rest just show the riot of buildings that touch the skies all around my apartment, which is only four floors high. Most of the apartments (there are no houses) are ten times taller than my place. I went upstairs to check if there was access to the roof, and I was in luck. Usually it's locked, but not today. The luscious green tree in one of the pics is my "backyard." Sadly, this is the first time I've ever seen it! As I strolled ... read more

That's right people, I am in Seoul, and I am super-tired. 27 hours of travel time will do that to you; especially when you get 3 hours of sleep before you leave. Oh well, what are ya gonna do? That's 3 more hours than Rob, who didn't bother with sleep. We didn't actually get here until 9:00 pm on Tuesday (Seoul time). Thankfully, Rob's friend Justin (who's teaching english here) gave us some great directions to his place and hooked us up in a cheap hotel. We're staying in one of those sex hotels that are so popular with the businessmen around here. The place is nice, and sometimes we get to hear a show! Despite our lack of sleep, Rob and I got a move on the next day with Justin's friend Chris (who's vacationing ... read more

So, what have I been doing since my holidays ended, you might ask? Well, there is a lot to catch you up on there, too. That's what happens when one doesn't write in one's travelblog for about a month. Tomorrow, I'm going to Seoul to meet a Dutch friend of mine who is coming to visit for about a week. We met in Ireland where we studied abroad together (you can actually read about him in the early entries of this travelblog :-)) and traveled together. I'd say he's my best friend from Ireland, so it'll be great to see him again, show him around, and have a good time. Plus, it's my first visitor from beyond Korean borders--woot! As for the two to three weeks between Busan and now, I've been quite busy. I'm still ... read more

Anyung Friends and Family, Sorry it has been so long since my last email. I even have Internet at home now so I really have no excuse other than pure laziness, lethargy and an extreme lack of motivation to think after or before working (or most anytime for that matter; I'm supposed to be paid for that kind of hard labor). But anyway, I'm now sufficiently motivated to come clean about my recent exploits and hijinks over here on the other side of the globe. So let's see, where did I leave off last... We've continued to frequent the gym, play soccer, badminton, sollyvoccer, and ride bikes around since I last wrote, but sometimes not as consistently as we'd like to. I was planning on resolving the conflict between the North and the South with ... read more

Hey, ok, I have to write before things come out of my head!! TRAFFIC RULES (or lack thereof) There is no such thing as yielding here, it's more like a giant game of chicken, the last one who pulls out before getting hit wins the first spot in the line. Red lights do not mean stop, they mean slow down, look both ways and if it's clear, keep going! Scooters are not motor vehicles, they behave like pedestrians. They swerve through cars, on the sidewalk, almost run people over...oh and helmets must only be present, not worn. You see countless people riding with their helmets on the back of their bikes! One more thing I noticed, hitting the car next to you seems like a normal things, I was sitting in a car, with our American ... read more

So here I am in my teachers guise and I think I pull it off rather well;turtleneck, oval glasses, an automatic smile- I was made for this gig! This is me and my beloved 1A class last month. On the back row from right to left we have Catherine, Julia, Emma, Maria (my hiking buddy) and Audrey. Front row we have Rosen and Kelly- ta da!Honestly, although their English wasn't great we had such a good time- always laughing and joking. There was one boy in this class called James who was often the butt of bawdy humour- he loved it and even wrote in his evaluation 'I like this class because it has lots of girls in it.' Can always rely on a bloke to tell it how it is- so easy to please. ... read more

Greetings from Seoul, South Korea! 2003 - Present I left home (USA) in October of 2003. After visiting Holland and Belgium with my niece, I went to Istanbul, Turkey to teach English. Istanbul was wonderful. I loved my students and their innocent directness. I loved to hear the call to prayer. I loved the textiles and the grand bazaar. I loved to hear the traditional music and see the men dance arm-in-arm, waving napkins in the air. From the crowded, polluted streets of Istanbul I went to the quiet serenity of the Lake District in Italy. I spent two months as a guest worker at a spiritual retreat. From Italy, I came to South Korea, where I am now. This is my second year here editing ESL books. It was my first time in Asia and ... read more

well after a warm up flight to LA and the extreimly long trans-pacific flight, (which actually went by faster than expected thanks to the two year old sitting beside me) we have half a day to kill in Seoul Korea. There isn't much here because the airport just opened a year ago.... But James and I managed to find a best western and slip on to some couputers to pass the time. Can't waite to get to Thailand!!!!!!... read more

Hello, I am a but slow at getting going with these things, I apologize! You know, me and technology, we are not exactly friends! So how is life in Ilsan, South Korea, you might ask? Well, it is interesting to say the least! And different of course. Here are a few adventures or misadventures shall I say? Everything looked the same when I first got here, neon, neon and more neon, oh and people and cars everywhere! So my first morning in town, I decide it would be a good idea to walk to work. Not that smart! I end up lost, of course, and I had to call Taryn (the other foreign teacher at my school) for help. Luckily she met up with me but we were both late. It's always nice to make a ... read more

well this was my last weekend in korea for a while and boy was it a good won (get it like the money:) ha ha!). Well anyway it was a great weekend as two of my good friends orgainised a scavenger hunt for my going away. That involved a lot of nudity my favorite was when my team all decided to get down to our underwear in the middle of world cup stadium pitch thinking that we were the only people around to find behind us a whole wedding party peering through a window laughing at us!!! Another good one was when one of our team members striped down to her underwear in the middle of KFC, or me getting handcuffed by a police officer which i was quiet shocked for the whole willingness to help ... read more
