The sun is shining, its a beautiful day, my windows are open, I'm enjoying the spring weather and I decided to finally update my blog. I dont know if anyones realized it yet, but I've been in Korea for 8 months now! 8 months! I cant believe how fast time is flying! Before I know it my parents will be here and then after that I'll only have 2 months left here to enjoy summer and then back home. I'll be excited to go home and see everyone for a month or so. Come September I'm leaving again. I dont really know where for sure, but it'll be somewhere thats not home. Anyways, like I said before spring is here and I've never been happier. You really never realize how depressing winter is until spring comes ... read more

Hi everyone, I'll be updating within the next few days but I just wanted to post this information as it hits close to home. On February 29th an apartment building in Seoul caught on fire and almost took the life of a guy living in it. He has been living and teaching English in Seoul for about 14 months. He has 3rd degree burns on almost 70% of his body and has to undergo several operations. His school didnt enroll him in the medical insurance program here (even though its illegal) and they are expecting his medical costs to be hundreds of thousands of dollars. I dont know him personally but it really hit close to home for me as I couldnt imagine this happening to me or anyone I know. Especially living in Korea so ... read more

Greetings everyone from tropical Korea.... Ok, so maybe its not so tropical, but compared to what home sweet home was last week I'd say anywhere that was near 0 degrees was tropical. Anyways onto my life for the past few weeks. Snowboarding snowboarding snowboarding. Actually no, not that much, just every weekend. I wish it was more. Since the first time I have definitely improved so I am falling head over heals in love with it. Its alot easier to fall in love with certain sports when you catch on fast. Golf, on the other hand, is something I dont think I will ever fall in love with as it is probably one of the most frustrating sports to ever learn. You think you have it and then no. No, you dont. Snowboarding though is great! ... read more

Ok, ok, I know. Its been forever since I've updated! But I'll fill you in. I haven't done too many exciting things in the past month. Nothing compared to my first three months here when I was gone almost every weekend! I think my apathy is a mix of wanting to meet more people around where I live, winter and colder weather and my life becoming normal. I'm not complaining though. I've had a great last month. Anyways, when the weather wasn't so cold out I was out doing alot of walking and exploring around my area. Then the weather turned cold. And by cold I dont mean -20 like back home. (Thank God!) But I'm a big wimp when it comes to cold, so I decided to get another months membership to the gym. K, ... read more

First off I would just like to say that I am incredibly happy and jealous of my best friend Ashley who is currently traveling in Thailand. Incredibly happy for her because she is one of the greatest people ever and she deserves to be having the time of her life traveling the beautiful beaches of Thailand. Incredibly jealous of her because I want to be traveling the beautiful beaches of Thailand. I know, I know, I'm in Korea....but its no Thailand. I do still love it here, and it beats living in Edmonton, but everything seems so normal now. I want something new and exciting and have everything around me be, well...new. I try and get out and do some exploring on the weekends, but during the week my life is pretty normal. I work 9-5, ... read more

Hey everyone! I'm getting better at updating my blog! Woot woot! Now instead of getting just bits and pieces of my life you get all the nitty gritty details. Excited? I bet! Alright, so last weekend kind of turned out to be a bummer. I was planning on doing some major rock climbing, but it never actually happened. On Fridays I work till 6pm so I usually end up leaving my school when traffic is at its peak. I had to get to Suwon station to catch the train to Seoul to meet a girl who was going to help me look for a harness. On any normal day the taxi ride is usually 10 minutes, so I figured with traffic maybe 20 which would not be too bad. I need to stop underestimating traffic. You'd ... read more

Yesterday, visited Suwon Folk Village. Beautiful weather and most enjoyable way to learn about traditional Korean living. Rice is ready for harvesting. Had a beautiful lunch in the village bazaar. Enjoyed the oyster pancakes and the dong dong ju. Entertained by Korean farmers' dance performers and see-saw performers.... read more

Oh wow....long time again. Anyways, starting where I left off.... School Field trip! That morning we took a bus ride out to the sea where we all went out to the mud flats to dig for clams and whatever else we could find. It was pretty fun and the kids loved it. They got right into it as well and had no qualms about getting down and dirty. Some of the kids went into the mud with their shoes on and they would just get stuck. I was busy taking pictures and I saw this one boy whose feet were suctioned in the mud and he couldnt move. He was just standing there crying with his feet stuck in the mud. He looked so cute I wanted to take a picture but I felt bad because ... read more

Wow...I think this may have been the longest period of time that I have gone without posting anything. I should really start writing things down when they happen because after its happened I think "Oh I have to write about that in my blog" But I never write it down and then I forget about it. Anyways, I'll try my best from memory. Funny story...I was teaching a class of 3 students and we were learning about different things you would find in a kitchen. There was a picture of the item and then they had to figure out what the name of the item was. The first item was a pan or something like that. So they were writing down pan and the all of sudden this girl yells out what sounds like "F*ck!" I ... read more

Alright, to start things off I thought I would just post a few random things about my life and Korea and then go onto my beach story..... K, we have just gone though monsoon season here in South Korea. From what I heard July is usually the month that is really rainy...but for some reason this August has been rainy too. Rainy does not mean it cools off at all though. It is just rainy and still 30 degrees. What a great combination. But anyways....the building that my school is located in is the leakiest building I think I have ever been in. From the outside, and even the inside it looks like a pretty nice place...but when it starts raining we have buckets in every single room which have to be emptied every few hours ... read more
