As my Merscation continued, I needed stuff to do that was local and cheap. The arboretum in Osan had been on my to visit list for quite a while, so now seemed the perfect time and it was a beautiful summer's day. The gardens are easily accessible by subway, I took line one to Osan Dae/Osan University station. The Arboretum is about a five minute walk out of exit two. I, then, walked through the car park and a small plant covered tunnel and arrived at the ticket box. I paid my entrance fee, which was a bargainous 1,500 won and after showing the lovely ticket checker my ticket was free to roam the gardens.
Mulhyanggi means water fragrance, and is a little oasis of green in Gyeonggi-do. The gardens are massive, I certainly didn't expected them to be so big. I headed to the maze first to unleash my inner child. I had great fun wandering around trying to find the centre. Some people were obviously bit impatient, as there were some shortcuts that had been made through the walls. After the maze, I wandered past a nice, big shaded picnic area. It was heaving, lots of mothers and
their children eating a late lunch. They were also enjoying their Mers vacation and not letting it force them to stay indoors. I sat on a bench in the shade and read my book for a bit. It was lovely.
I walked along the river, which had dried up, and was filled with grass. It was still really pretty and the views were gorgeous. I walked along past a small lake, which also looked very nice. I then continued down some small paths, wandering around them, until I came to a big greenhouse. It was hot, hot in the greenhouse. There was a cute man made waterfall and lots of tropical, lush plants. I liked looking at the different types of cactus. After the greenhouse I came across an area, which had quite a few different flowers. However, my camera was playing up so I couldn't get really get any good close ups. There was apond like area, which I had a quick walk around, but it had a bit of a funky smell.
There was a look out point, which I climbed up, but the view wasn't too great. There were nice paths meandering between the trees,
so I wandered along those. I came to a large building on the other side of the arboretum. I wandering in to get some respite from the heat. All the information was in Korean, so I was totally clueless to what it was about. There was a water cooler though, so I decided to be cheap and fill my bottle up for free. Some old women started chatting to me at the water cooler, so sweet. I headed back outside and came across a cute Japanese style garden. It was really pretty and I enjoyed strolling through this part a lot. I had a quick look through some greenhouses at the bottom of the Japanese garden, and then made my way through a wooded area, and back to the entrance/exit. It was a lovely couple of hours wandering about.
