Hey there, I haven't updated in a long time. Sorry about that! I've been pretty busy... I went on a weekend trip to Oedaldo in the off-season and can't wait for the summer to come so I can go back. Oedaldo is an island about fifty minutes away from Mokpo by ferry. The island is small enough you can walk from one end to the other in a half an hour. It rained a little saturday night so we played poker until the rain died down, then walked around beaches. I didn't know how to play texas hold 'em until I came to Korea. I have no poker face but at least now I know how to play the game. I went to Daegu a second time with my friends a few weeks ago. That was ... read more

Hey everybody! I know I haven't been sticking to the weekly updates I assured everyone I would. :( I suppose I ought to reiterate that while I've been having a lot of fun out here, things have started settling down for me here. I think the honeymoon of coming out here is over. Things are more or less normal the more and more I've gotten into routines of work and play. What's been new with me lately though? I hiked Gatbawi again last weekend, it made for a nice few hour diversion. I went with my friend John and Emily. The way we went starts out with rocks to climb over and ropes to guide you. Emily left right before the last rocky peak, where all afterwards is stairs and dirt pathways. It's a shame because ... read more

Hey everybody! It's been awhile since I've put up a travel blog. A few of my Mokpo friends went to China with a tour group during the lunar new year. I'm settling with seeing the great wall vicariously until I get a chance to go out there to see it for myself. I stayed home during the lunar new year break. I want to start saving up money for my next vacation so I can do something spectacular like that. It was snowing on and off last weekend. It's cold, well compared to Washington State, but it's been beautiful outside. Not too much exciting or out of the ordinary has happened with me. That's why I hadn't thought to update in awhile. I know folks back home want to know I'm doing alright even if I ... read more

Hey everyone! Classes got cancelled for me today because of the snow so I think I'm going to go out and try to find some fun stuff to do on my day off. I'll have a make-up day during my lunar new year vacation, but that's alright. Not much new and exciting has happened this last week or weekend. I hung around my neighborhood last weekend. My roomates showed me a bowling alley, we were there for like three hours. I haven't bowled in a long time, so that was cool. Today I went out to check out a monastery I heard was on Yudalsan. I don't think I found it, but the day-trip was fun. The short version: I took a cab to Yudalsan, I told the driver I wanted to go to Yudalsan, and ... read more

Hey everyone! I went hiking around a mountain earlier today. Want to see some photos? That was a fun hiking trip. I've got two days to teach this week and then I go on New Years' vacation. I'm probably going to Daegu for the time off, there's a bunch of things to see and do. The following I wrote on another online blog but I think it fits here as well if you're wondering how being here has been in a nutshell; If you haven't travelled outside of American/Western Culture before in your life it sort of feels like you've been dropped off on a whole new world. Which is dichotomous; it's amazing, exciting and you want to soak it all in. You are meeting all kinds of people and trying new things. Then it's terrifying, ... read more

Hey there everyone! Hope you all had a Merry Christmas! I had the day off and my roomates, some friends and I hung around the house and watched Die Hard and tv shows. We met up with some other foreigners for dinner at an Italian restaraunt. I had a steak that was absolutely delicious. I gave some presents I'd bought for my friends. Fun times were had by all. A word of advice if you don't like rare meat on a steak, order it a notch higher. Rare here is rare. Mine was just right, but I know some people like their meat overdone. I've got work tomorrow, and then a two day workweek next week. I think this weekend I'm going to solidify my plans for my New Years break. Take care!... read more

I saw a movie, Yes Man with Jim Carrey Saturday night. Theaters in Korea have assigned seating. If you saw this movie back in the states, I'm sorry. I mostly hung around town this weekend, kind of loafed around which was nice. Another work week is coming up! So if you didn't hear, it's Christmas this Thursday. I've got the whole day off and I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do, but not Friday. There's some other foreigners I'm trying to get to know and I think they're planning something. I think I'll do what I do best and play it by ear. Don't worry, I'll do something special for Christmas. The Christmas Cards I bought and plan on sending to the States might come a little after Christmas. Sorry! I'm still planning ... read more

Hey Everyone! It's Wednesday for me, you know what that means. So far this week's been pretty good. I've got to say I like Wednesday evenings because it means the workweek is more than halfway finished. 3/5ths finished to be exact. Just far enough from last weekend to start craving another. My students are great, especially the ones who know as much English as I know Korean. I think I'm starting to find my style of teaching which is pretty cool. I know a month from now I'll say I've got it down too. The fun and challenging part of the job, always learning new ways to bring the material to the kids. Especially the ones who don't know much English yet. The easy part for me is with the exception of a few classes, the ... read more

Hey everybody! ahnyoung ha say yo! I've been bad and haven't been posting to my travel blog regularly. I have another blog that I've been using a lot, and neglecting this one. I think I'm going to schedule updates on a set day of the week. How does Wednesday or Saturday work? Why not both. Ok, I from this date forth will try and update either wednesday or saturday if not both days. I suppose if you're in the US that means look for an update on tuesday or friday depending on how late I'm up. Honestly there's a lot going on in my day-to-day life here in Korea, but I know the people back home and abroad reading this would rather read the good parts. Or at least hear that I'm good and well. Last ... read more

It snowed I think thursday night. And last night a lot. I think today I'm going to get some pictures before it all melts. Or turns into ice. I swear it's below freezing out there. A cab gave me a ride today and flipped a u-turn to pick me up and spun in the ice a lot before driving me where I wanted to go. I thought the cabs were scary without the snow and ice, ha! My second weekend here in town is going well thus far, I might be going to a Korean cultural event in an hour and all I know is a friend here got free tickets so I'm game. Otherwise I'm going to go out on my own and try out Korean BBQ. They have grills in the tables. That's right. ... read more
