Hi all! Wow seems like keeping up a blog religiously is a little difficult, or maybe its just because I am a little slack! I thought I best post a little update of what went on here is SK the last couple of weeks before I put up a massive entry and hordes of photos from my awesome holiday! The last couple of weeks before my holiday were trying to say the least with more lows than highs if the truth be known. I think a culmination of exhaustion from a year without a holiday, screaming kindergarten kids, some co-teacher work admin, serious lack of any interesting events or activities and winter just got a little too much for me! That being said the three weeks leading up to Christmas weren’t completely without any events. I ... read more

Hello again everyone, and happy new year to you all. Christmas has come and gone and I can now say that I haven't seen any of you since last year. I had a good time and I'm now looking forward to the adventures that 2009 should bring. A wise old friend of mine - also living far from home - recently described his Christmas as a challenge to get past rather than an occasion to celebrate. I saw the festive season in very much the same way but I still managed to enjoy myself and make the most of it. Whilst everyone at home was still tucked up in bed, I was out enjoying my 'Christmas meal' at the Hilton hotel in Seoul with a few friends. I say 'Christmas meal' because that's not really an ... read more

Hi All! I’m just checking in to let you know that all is well and that I haven’t forgotten about this page for those of you who still take the trouble to check it. Sorry I haven’t given you anything new to read for a while! It’s come to that point in my journey that was always going to be one of the hardest…..Christmas! One of the few draw backs of coming here for this great experience is that I have to spend Christmas away from home for the first time. I can’t deny that it will be difficult but one day of feeling lonely and homesick is a small price to pay for the enjoyment I’ve already had and hope to have more of in the coming months. The winter here has started to hit ... read more

Classes have been going well for the most part. A lot of my students love me and that makes me happy. A few of them have written me letters of appreciation and many of them greet me with eager hugs or smiles. But I have one class, LT kindergarten, that hates my stinkin’ guts. I am under a lot of pressure to get them to finish a certain book called English Time. They don’t like the book. I don’t like the book. And basically nobody wants to be there. But finish this book, they must. img=http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=38212466&id=26700949&l=a190d#/photo.php?pid=38212464&id=26700949&l=a190d One of my students, let's call him Booger, is pretty terrible at constru... read more

Hey guys, SO SORRY i haven't been blogging for ages.. 2 months in fact!! Gosh i cant believe it has been that long, just read my last blog and so much has happened since then! I wont remember it all in order so i will just throw things out and see if you can make sense of any of it!! Where do i start? Well school i suppose... its getting better, there have been moments when i have been told i was a crap teacher and that's kinda upsetting.. but i think this school (like so many others) is fickle, its just a business and they aren't really all that interesting in the kids actually learning they just want the kids to enjoy it enough to keep coming so they get the money. For example i ... read more

"In a happy little foreign town, where the stars are upside down, half a world away, far, far away."-Deana Carter Been a long time since I’ve written. I have been very busy with work and the whole social butterfly thing that when I come home I just want to watch The Daily Show and sleep. Work still sucks but I have slipped into the seventh stage of grief and have just accepted that I am stuck at my shitty school. The cockroaches in my apartment are mostly gone, although I have seen 2 in the past month. And I am thinking very seriously about getting a cat. I have met so many people in the past couple of months it's hard to keep them all straight. It’s very easy to make friends here, because we are ... read more

I feel I must apologise for my relative lack of activity on here recently. It's not so bad though since it means that I have a couple of things to report. I also now have my own camera which will hopefully give my entries a bit more context from here on in. The difficulty of my Korean lessons has gone up a notch and along with it the amount of time I devote (or at least should devote!) to my studying. Still enjoying it though and slowly but surely I’m picking a few things up. All I need now is for somebody to claim that a pencil is a book and I can correct them using accurate Korean. Well, you never know! Since I last wrote I have performed magic tricks at the school Halloween party ... read more

It’s been a while Hello to my friends, family and any other random passers by who did a search looking for info on SK and found my blog! I’m sorry its been a while but I will put it down to the fact that more has been happening on the social scene than anything else and all that news needs no words cause the facebook photos tell their own story. I do however think that I have finally managed to rack up a worthwhile amount of news to warrant a blog insert so here we go J. Lets start with school. Lets just say that teaching is never going to be my ultimate profession, specially nursery school teaching but the job is easy and it’s paying the bills so I can’t complain. The school pretty much ... read more

Korea almost ruined Halloween for me. Kind teacher Lynn decided she was going to celebrate Halloween with her kids, be extremely generous and give out lots of candy. I had this plan to have kids bobbing for apples and playing games. It was going to be glorious. What actually happened? WELL...I lugged pounds of candy to the school. I dressed up as a witch and had a broom. I announced that kids could come trick or treating at my office...and then...I almost died in an avalanche of children. My pumpkin was stolen. My candy was stolen. I was mauled by kids who were pushing my desk on top of me. Oh and did I mention that they even stole the apples so there were no apples bob for. After that, I pretty much closed up shop. ... read more

It would seem things are settling into a bit of a routine after three and a bit weeks of being here. Iyay I got my card today so I’ll be connected as of Monday and I’m saying roll on next Friday for payday I can’t for that either wait!! Last weekend was fairly chilled, well chilled in the sense that I wasn’t out till all hours the entire weekend but that’s not to say the weekend was without some eventful occurrences. It was Hazel, the Irish girl I met the weekend priors’ farewell last Friday night. I had been in touch with the girls and was awaiting final plans. Without a phone it’s such a hack cause I’m reliant on people posting weekend plans on good old facebook, which is very tedious since I have ... read more
