Annyeong-haseyo from Korea! Hello everyone and welcome to my travel blog. I figured that this would be an easy way to keep in touch and will be adding my thoughts (or inane ramblings) whenever I feel there is something of significance to talk about. I invite you to have a look at any time you feel so inclined. I don't really understand how these things work as I am no interwebologist but I think you can send me messages and at some stage I will try to add some pictures, although don't hold your breath on that because it would require me buying a camera and being bothered to take pictures which, as many of you know, is my ultimate pet peeve. So now we know the system I should tell you how it’s going. Following ... read more

Friday 2:14am 15 August 2008 Dudes, Korean Air rocks my world - seriously the pimpest Asian airline evah. For a one and a half hour flight from Beijing to Seoul they served us a WHOLE MEAL. The cart came around and I was all set to order my orange juice, and suddenly I have a plate in front of me! With awesome rice and pepper beef! Asain food is the best airplane food there is, hands down. Now I'm in the Korean airport. Got in at midnight, leave at noon tomorrow. 12 hours, oh joy. BUT if you have to sit somewhere for a 12 hr layover, this is the place to do it! Right now I'm upstairs in the lounge area. Where there are reclining seats like pimp lawn chairs to sleep on. And FREE ... read more

Hello everybody! It's been some time since I last posted anything and that mainly has to do with the fact that there is nothing really to report. Many days seem very repetitive and sometimes I even forget what day it is. I suppose the most exciting thing I have done lately is go golfing on a real golf course. In Korea it costs like 300 bucks for a single round so you can see why I have been hesitant to play out more often. However, the course I played was awesome! Every group is assigned a caddy and she was actually quite helpful. Every shot she brought me my clubs told me the yardage and anything that might be important for each shot. It was my first time golfing with a caddy and it was great. ... read more

So, I made it! *(For those of you who may not know, my Dad works for NWA and I fly standby... so it's always uncertain if I'll get on the flights I want.) I got out on my first attempt to Tokyo, Japan (and in first class too!!!!). It was an 11 and a half hour flight, which was luckily made shorter by watching 3 movies, eating a LOT and taking a couple of naps. I also cought my first attempt at a connecting flight to Seoul, Korea, where my friend Juno was waiting for me. Juno studied abroad at Winona State my freshman year and said everyone was invited to come visit-- so here I am! I am staying at his parents house in Incheon, which is a suburb of Seoul. Their apartment is very ... read more

I thought that some of you would like to see a driving range in South Korea. This is not your typical range. There are many many ranges here in Incheon and Seoul, however, most are very small and only allow you to hit the ball roughly 150 yards or so. This one tops out at 360 yards as you can see by the pics. The place where this range resides is pretty close to my house and likely one of the biggest ones in Korea this is within the city. It's called Tiger World (no relation to Mr. Woods). I don't know why they chose to call it Tiger World since there are no tigers present and there is no supply of tiger balm. Regardless, I took some cool self shots because I was bored and ... read more

Hello, all fellow readers! It has been a long time since my last blog and therefore have much news so this has the potential of being a long one! As I go back in time this entry could jump from one topic to another very quickly so I am sorry. One memory that comes to mind was roughly a month ago when some of my older Korean friends took me out for dinner on a Friday night. I had planned on a quiet Friday just meeting some guys having some fried chicken and a few jugs of beer, but what awaited me that night will haunt my dreams forever. We jumped in my friends car and headed down to port of Incheon and that only meant one thing....seafood. For those of you that know me, you ... read more

Yesterday most of the female Alphabet Street staff drove out to Incheon, where the father of one of our school's students works as an apprentice to a ceramics master. He showed us around town, which is home to over 300 ceramics artists. Very cool place...... read more

A bus, a subway and a short ferry ride, and we were once again hitting one of the islands in our favourite Korean travel playground, the West sea off Incheon. After being enticed by an arial photograph in the waiting room of the Incheon harbour, we decided that this trip would be to the island of Deokjeokdo. Without knowing much about the island, we decided to just buy one-way tickets. Once we were on the island we caught a the waiting bus to Sinripo beach on the South Eastern corner. As usual, we had to insist to some highly persuasive ajummas that we were not in need of accommodation and were planning to stay in our tent by choice, not for lack of options. When we arrived in Sinripo we were glad that we had held ... read more

Last weekend I managed to get out of the city, at least out of the main part anyway. Jeongjongdo is an island where the main airport is located in Incheon. It is still quite busy but the difference in the air was quite astounding! The water, however, is quite dirty as the West Sea is the passage from Korea to China and it is a major shipping route between the two. My boss and his family were nice enough to ask me join them on the island so I wasn't alone on this voyage, however, they are very Christian and in place of beer there was much water. Along many of the shore lines there were many Koreans fishing but upon asking them if they had caught anything there were no fish to be found! hahahaha...they ... read more

Hello everyone! Well I am almost finished with my year here in Korea. I can not believe how fast time has gone by. I have 3 more weeks of school and then Im off on a backpacking trip! I am so excited! I am going to Thailand, specifically Koh Lanta, to get my scuba certificate. Then I am going to head up to Siem Reap Campbodia, see the temples in Ankor, do some treking and then finish up in Laos. On my way home I am spending a night in Hong Kong, then hopefully I will get a partial nights sleep in my own bed before I go to North Korea for a short trip. A few days later I will be standing on American soil, that sounds crazy right now. I plan on being home ... read more
