We left earlyish from Seoul, around nine thirty in the morning, as we wanted to get there fr around 10, when the galleries, shops and cafes were meant to open. We took the bus from Hapjeong station. The queue for the bus was really long, and we let the first one go, as we didn't want to stand. Luckily the buses come every 10 minutes or so, and we managed to get a seat. The bus journey took about an hour as we headed north from Seoul, you can deffo tell you're getting closer to the north as there is a bigger military presence. Heyri Art Village is a community for artists, writers, painters, musicians, architects, and other creative types to live and work, and create in. I think the village has been around since the ... read more

Shortly we are off to our final dinner next door in the beautiful little village called Heyri Art Village. We have grown found of the art villages numerous cafe choices, art galleries and restaurants. As well as the gorgeous and unique architecture. Ironically, we were taken to the Farmer's Table for Tanner's going away dinner. We had only been on campus for a few weeks but had become good friends. Thus it is only fair that we depart our English Village lifestyle by indulging from this fine menu once again. Tonight however it will only be the two of us, sharing a romantic dinner before blowing off fireworks and kicking back with a couple of close friends. A time for reflection is always the best thing when you are departing one place and beginning the next ... read more

There is a serious chocolatier living across the street with over fifty different tantalizing chocolate desserts to make any mouth salivate. Exquisite aromas flutter out onto the street as the cocoa is combined, fired up, melted, shaped, sprinkled, swirled and molded into chocolate delights. Ninety-percent of the menu is in Korean. The only English words available were ice cream, sundae, chocolate, truffle and cake. Pointing at a poster the selection is made, money exchanged hands and a number is given. A hand points the way to the eating area strolling past boxed chocolates noticing the prices 9-piece for 15,500 won ($13.90) and 6-piece for 12,500 ($11.10), just in case. Picking a table in the corner beside one of three glass walls staring out into the hazy afternoon, waiting. Arriving eight minutes later a glass bowl is ... read more

Many years ago an unnamed visionary dreamt of a collaborative community where artists from every background would congregate, build their homes, have their studios and exhibit their work. With the artists building, creating and producing their work, people would flock to the community to discuss, interact and observe the artist within their workspace. This visionaries dream became a reality in 1994 when a group of architects met to discuss plans, design and develop a town around the idea of a collaborative artistic community integrated within its environment. The architects on the project were Kyong-Kyu Kim, Kyoung-Kook Woo, Jong-Ho Lee, Jong-Kyu Kim, and Hellen Park. Several years passed as the project was put on hold but then on December 22nd, 1999 an agreement with the Korea Land Corporation was signed and construction began in February 2001. Maximizing ... read more

Thirty-two hours into writing a short story my brains froze up, literally they went numb. There were zero thoughts coming into my head this is when I decided not to stay in the apartment any longer. Grabbing my computer, notepad and satchel, I flung on my blue winter jacket, a pair of jeans and headed out the door. Destination unknown I wandered across the street into Heyri Art Valley. With numerous choices, I walked past Quilt Café, ducking past Agora Museum, wandering past Frog Café, down the road I went kicking pebbles thinking of nothing in search of a café for a cup of tea. Twenty minutes later I had passed every café within the middle of Heyri. Soon, I found myself near the courtyard surrounding the iLikeDalki kids playground. Noticing for the first time there ... read more

Every time I step across the street into the area known as Heyri Art Village, my brains go into overdrive. The ideas begin popping out of my skull about things to draw, design and take photographs of. My mouth begins to salivate for all the delicious cakes, coffees, deserts and sandwiches that each coffee shop provides! I am drawn into each visit because I will always see something different, learn something about an artist, musician, painter or poet or I will find myself in the house of a collector. There are collections inside peoples homes about stamps, posters, cinema, films, cartoon characters, toys, plants, herbs, fauna... basically if you can collect it it might be there! Finally, we come around to those average people who have rented space in the large complex building just trying to ... read more
