Another weeks adventure to the the other side of the world and a few nights back on the island, Singapore. Landed about 6pm and on this first night we got there a few of us just headed to an outdoor food court called Glutens Bay, which I have blogged about before, for chicken satay. Was mobbed for a Tuesday night. There's a few stalls to go to that offer different Asian foods. After here we just popped to the local bar. The next day myself and two of the girls got a taxi to the beach at Sentosa. I always have a jaunt there when in Singapore as prefer the beach to sitting by the pool, just as it so humid. Got ourselves a good spot to bathe and literally just said how nice a day it was as storms had been forecast, and lone behold moments later a huge grey cloud came rolling in. The wind really picked up, there was thunder and then an announcement came on over the tanoid stating that due to the lightening storms approaching everyone was to get out of the water and seek shelter immediately! We literally dashed to a beach bar nearby called
Bora Bora and made it just in time as the weather was torrential! Was funny as one of the girls had been with me on my Rio trip last week when it had been raining the whole time, so we have came to the conclusion that we are not a good combo together for sunshine! Sat in the bar for an hour or so and had some cocktails. Any excuse for a drink! The weather was absolutely wild and didn't look like it was letting up anytime soon so we made a consecutive decision to make a dash for it. Our fellow bar people wished us luck on our endeavour! Made it back to hotel in one drenched piece and got ourselves ready for the night ahead.
Met all the crew at 6pm. Started at the local bar for buy one get one free drinks, then we walked to a restaurant called Fatty's which is near Bugis Market. One of the first officers was explaining the history of it to me which is basically that during the war British prisoners were on the island and a gentleman called 'Fatty' would sneak food to them. He has then since got
a restaurant but passed away a few years ago so now his son is running it who is ironically very skinny. We sat outdoors at a table and all shared a selection of food such as chicken with cashew, peppered beef, prawns, rice, stir fried veg etc. Was really nice food and quite cheap. After here five of us girls headed to Marina Bay Sands to the bar at the top called Ku De Ta. I had gone on their website and seen that Wednesday night was 'Ladies Night' which meant free entry and a free drink - love being a girl! It was probably the busiest I have ever seen it up there, couldn't even see the views which was ashame as couple of the girls hadn't been up there before. Was still amazing, had our free drink and a boogy. Managed to find another spot near the restaurant area for some photo opportunities. Stayed here for a while then we headed to another rooftop bar/ club that also had on a 'Ladies Night'. The taxi drivers found it quite difficult to find so I can't actually remember exactly where it was but it was called One Altitude. 'Ladies
Night' here meant free entry and then 10 dollars for a cosmopolitan or martini cocktail, which works out about £5. This is cheap for Singapore! You get an elevator up to the top and the views are just so amazing! It's all open air with a dj, bars and can see the whole city. There were loads of guys considering it was ladies night, obviously a good marketing technique. Got on the cosmos and danced away here until the early hours. Would definately go back to this place, even if it wasn't ladies night. Love an open air dance, especially with a view like this!
The following day was a chilled one by the pool and got some lunch from a food court nearby in the Suntec Centre where you can get meat, couple veg and rice for about 4 dollars - bargain! Then it was off to Sydney again that night where the trend of drinking with a view was continued. Clubbers guide here!
When we got back from Sydney a couple of nights later we just went for a late night munch to a restaurant called Hong Kong Cafe. Not going to lie wasn't my favourite,
not sure whether this was due to exhaustion or the fact I was too adventurous with my order. I got a special rice with chicken and seafood, and a couple of the seafood pieces were a bit interesting. Next day I could hardly get myself out of bed so tired but didn't want to waste the day so just the pool again. This time the weather was scorching, the heat is so intense here. On this night we had drinks by the pool, then went to my favourite place for food - Lau Pa Sat. The indoor area had all been renovated and reopened but we still sat outside on the street at Boon Tat Street. Ordered so much food - chicken, beef and prawn satay, rice, this bread with cheese and meat with a homemade curry sauce - sounds weird but so good, green veg and pitchers of beers. Absolutely stuffed. Walked back along the river and past the Fullerton Hotel. I have heard that there is a lovely rooftop bar up there - shall add that to my list for a rooftop beverage for next time. Just went to hotel after our walk as so exhausted from the
weeks outtings and spent a fortune so couldn't really afford another night out.
Went to Chinatown the next morning with couple of the girls for some bits and bobs (can get everything there) then back to the pool for last hours of tanning. Hottest day yet! We caved about 3pm and went back for a sleep before flight home to London that evening. Been such a fun week exploring more of Singapore's nightlife! And love that every time I come here there is still more to see and do. What a place! Also whilst we'v been here they have been getting prepared for the Grand Prix which starts on the 19th of September. Looking like that will be a great event to be at!
