Our Tiger Airways flight was very brisk as was the taxiing at either end - Tiger pilots don’t waste any time! However, overall our flight from Macau to Singapore, being our first Tiger flight, was quite enjoyable.
We arrived in Singapore at the new Changi Airport Budget Terminal (photo). It was nothing fancy but the immigration and baggage services were very efficient. We would get to experience the full range of facilities until our flight our two days later. The complimentary shuttle bus took us to the main terminal where we caught the metro back to Payar Lebar near Michael’s friend Owen’s apartment.
That afternoon, we caught up with Owen’s lovely wife Intan and their adorable daughter Skye. Skye also became well acquainted with Michael’s mobile phone (photo) and his camera (photos).
When Owen arrived home, we headed out for drinkies in the city at Muddy Murphy’s near Orchard Towers (photo). There we met up with Scotty (yes we followed him to Singapore) and one of his friends and sampled a beer known as an ‘Old Speckled Hen’ (photo) - very nice! And our first experience of chips with curry sauce - yummy!

with Michael's mobile Off to dinner at the Black Angus steak restaurant - mmm beef! Barbara enjoyed baby bbq ribs (not BADY bbq ribs as named in Macau) and Michael devoured their special Big Burger (photo). We were also joined at dinner by Naomi from our trek in Chiang Mai who we were very pleased to catch up with. Good food, good people, what more could we ask for?! And for the record EVEN party boy Scotty had an early night as he was flying the next day - Good boy Scotty, Cathay would be proud!

The next morning Skye got all dressed up in mummy’s heels, handbag and stroller to take us all for a walk around the district. First stop was breakfast of rotti (thin Indian pancake) with curry sauce and kava (coconut jam) on toast - yummy! Further wandering brought us upon the fantastic Popiah restaurant which we had visited numerous times during our previous visit to Singapore. Owen and Intan were very curious to sample the menu so the boys picked up some Popiah after our walk and brought it back to the apartment for lunch. Tick of approval all round!
Intan
as photographed by Skye We weren’t accustomed to the heat and humidity of Singapore after spending time in Hong Kong during winter so we rested before heading down to East Coast Beach for a stroll along the esplanade (photo). Not long after we arrived, it started to rain so we sought shelter in Burger King for a short time. We emerged soon after from our air conditioned haven and continued north along the beach where we found the Jumbo Seafood Restaurant (photo), famous for its delicious Crab - too bad for Michael! Michael tried to avoid the need for Telfast by ordering dome fried squid. Unfortunately they fry the squid with the prawns and there were a few mixed in. So these got sent back and he settled for some chicken satay skewers instead. The rest of us enjoyed poking our way around a huge butter crab (photo) - YUM! A very fun messy time was had that evening by all - including Skye! (photos)

After Michael had finished his morning reading lesson (photo), we were picked up by Tony -from Betelbox that we met during our last visit to Singapore - and he took us for a
Owen
as photographed by Skye tour around the district. It had been a long time since Owen had travelled like a backpacker in the back of a ute but he adjusted very quickly and had an interesting ride. Intan and Skye enjoyed the artificial air-conditioning in the front while the three of us enjoyed the natural air-conditioning in the back.
Stopping by a local bakery, Tony picked up some delicious pastries for us to munch on at the beach (photo) In true Singaporean tradition, we continued eating at the East Coast Lagoon market where we delighted in some local teats including pork soup, satay, curry puffs and roast duck...mmmmmm...roast duck!
As if our bellies weren’t full enough, we wandered down to the very end of the beach where the boat club is located and had afternoon drinkies. Cheers Tony for a great day!
Rushing back to Owen’s we quickly packed our tortoise shells and bid a fond farewell to Owen, Intan and gorgeous Skye then caught a taxi hasty to the airport.
When we arrived at the Budget Terminal for our Tiger Airways flight to Bangkok, we found we had no need to rush as it had been delayed by about
Barbara
as photographed by Skye 3.5 hours...GRRR! There wasn’t any real explanation provided for the delay but every plane on the board was “re-timed” (not just Tiger) so there wasn’t much we could do but wait so we enjoyed a few lazy hours exploring the very adequate and comfortable facilities at the Budget Terminal: duty free shops (window shopping anyway), free internet and delicious cheap dinner (meat pie for Michael and laksa for Barbara). Plus we couldn’t really complain as we had been very lucky until that point and not had a late departure out of over a dozen flights.
Finally our plane arrived and Michael settled in with a (very classy) can of red wine (photo). Then we were off, back to Bangkok - again!
