Addendum to Singapore section of the trip, Denzil, We were thinking of you the other day in Singapore, at the weekend, there was a large piece of lawn by the shopping complex that we walked past in the morning, that was about 30ft wide by 50ft long and a piece of blue polythene had been laid out from right to left, in a wavy fashion/ Are you with me so far. When we walked back a couple of hours later about six (6) houses had been set up randomly placed over the area. Six guys each had a radio controlled tank, and were doing battle, it seemed like three (3) aside but we couldn’t quite tell. The tanks where about 2ft across and beautifully detailed, rotating turrets, gun recoil. Sound, the lot. Caroline was so ... read more

We awoke at 3.21 am as we were in the wide awake club, an electric storm was illuminating the sky which was spectacular, but no rain. When we ventured outside from our air condition bed room, the humidity and heat at this time in the morning hit you like a comedy frying pan in the face. An hour later came the rain, and boy does it rain. We dozed off to sleep at around 6.00 am, and re awoke at 10.30. We set off in to Singapore for breakfast, (thank god for Starbucks) and had the pleasure of engaging in to conversation with a Singaporean Guy (Jackson Teo 26) who had lived in California for 12 years and had come back to Singapore to complete his PhD. We talked and talked for two (2) hours about ... read more

As we are trying to keep daily events together and you will be reading this in snapshots this is a continuation of day 1. We had around 3 hours sleep, then woke at around 3.00pm (STP) Singapore time. Stumbled around for ½ an hour, then we showered, and shaved, well I did. (Andy) It seemed quite bizarre that we went out and got a pool side bed, had a club sandwich and a cup of tea, then a swim. The temperature is around 27 degrees C, quite sunny and extremely humid. We ventured out in the evening, and only just trotted around for a while, had a coffee in Starbucks and did some people watching. As we were walking we saw some people who were sitting and had their feet dangling in to a tank of ... read more

Hi all, its 1.58 am British Time, and we got to the Marina Mandarin Hotel about 20 minutes ago, so door to door from Romsey was 19 1/2 Hours. The flight was good, the Airbus A380 was just fantastic, I believe Singapore Airlines was the first airline in the world to take delivery of such a beast, and now they have 6 in the fleet. Compared to 747 (Jumbo) is just looks larger, a 747 can seat 375, and the 380 can seat 471, in the configuration, of economy, Business, and Premier (Suites), though overall it is advertised that it is capable of seating 800 people. The cabin crew are beautifly dressed in a type of Sarong and the food was excellent, with proper cutlery which was nice. When we got off the plane, it was ... read more

Dear all, Today was our last day in Singapore and so we decided to do all of the things that tourists are supposed to do when here! We started by having afternoon tea at the Pan Pacific hotel. It was very nice...a lovely hotel, if only we could afford to stay there! Next we went to Raffles Hotel which is one of the oldest hotels in Singapore. We went to the famous Long Bar where it is traditional to eat monkey nuts and throw the shells onto the floor. We both had a Singapore Sling which is made with gin, Brandy, Cointreau, Benedictine, Pineapple juice, lime juice, grenadine and bitters!! I have no idea what some of those things are but the drink was very nice! However it didnt seem so nice when we got the ... read more

Singapore in a day! Our flight arrived in Singapore on time and after a quick taxi to our hotel Kirsty and I decided to seize the day and have a nap! Our hotel - though quite expensive was grim. The walls were damp and the whole hotel felt like it was about to blow a fuse - or electricute someone. I was not going to be charging up my mobile in this establishment! We strolled through Singapore and found ourselve somewhere to eat. Noodles - very safe. We found our bearings and jumped on a Duck tour around the city. The tour covered the river and the roads and although was clearly aimed at 5 year olds was actually very entertaining! Singapore is a gorgeous city but lacks character I find. Perhaps that is just ... read more

Rumoured to be one of the hippest places in Singapore, Clarke’s Quay is the place to visit for bars, restaurants and ex-pat mingling. Established in the 1900’s this area was once the heart of trading and commerce. A century later, this bustling area was one of the few places you could go clubbing, enjoy up scale eating and just let loose. Clarke’s quay is an amalgamation of colourful restaurants and shops with outdoor patios and ferry lights. It reminds me very much of my visit to Copenhagen. The Singapore River runs through area and you can go across to the other side via a bridge. Many ex-pats come to this area to party, relax and let loose. Now with Marina Sands opened up the area is getting a run for it’s money. When we had gone ... read more

One rainy and clammy Sunday in Singapore, and we decided to spend it inside wandering from one big shopping mall to another via underground passages. Love it. In here people are really living 24/7 so no "day offs" are in sight. It's just cool to walk slowly wondering how different things can be from them I'm used to. Still I don't experience the difference of the living here as a distracting thing, on the contrary, it's a refreshing feeling. ... read more

Hello from Singapore! Well i am a couple of Singapore Gin Slings down so excuse any typos!!! So i reluctantly left Cape Town yesterday having had a wonderful time with the boys and took the very long flight over to Singapore. i have to admit i was dreading the long haul flight and went fully prepared with a bottle powerful sleeping tablets! I did not however have to worry at all. if any of you have ever flown with Singapore airlines you will know what i am talking about. It was fabulous! now i know what you are thinking, did i manage to get an upgrade? i did not. HOWEVER, the flight was half empty and the space was surprisingly HUGE! luckily i had the whole 3 seats to myself, along with 6 pillows 3 blankets ... read more
