Well you would think that was a bonus, but actually what it has meant is that most of the restaurants and shops have closed down so that families can get together for the celebrations. We are back in a hostel again after being in hotels for a few nights. So it is bunk beds and communal living. First day here we have been on the hop-on hop-off bus around the city, and I first 'hopped off' at the Botanic Gardens which were lovely. Very tropical (what a surprise) and although busy there was still plenty of quiet places. Then after 'hopping on' again I went to Raffles. Actually that was the second visit of the day. First time was on the way to the bus when we were lucky enough to see the Lion dancing, and ... read more

Sunday, 12th October 2014 A Brief Overview:- After months of anticipation, the Singapore Sports Museum finally opened its doors to the public at the Sports Hub on 9th October 2014. The Sports Museum first started life in 1983 at the West Entrance of the former National Stadium. After the stadium was demolished to make way for the new Sports Hub, I was waiting patiently for the museum to re-open its doors again.... So on Sunday, 12th October 2014, armed with plenty of curiosity and excitement, I happily made my way to the museum. Admission to this fine venue is free to all Singaporeans and Permanent Residents. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a massive Hall of Fame which paid tribute to our local sporting legends like Mr Ang Peng Siong who was crowned the World's Fastest ... read more

Looking at my map of Singapore i noticed that there was a large park near my hotel and the national stadium was at the edge. Decided to go for a walk there to see the area. It was closer than i thought, but since jaywalking is a crime it almost doubled my time waiting at all the traffic lights. My biggest pet hate here is the length of time you stand waiting at the lights for the green man. There is never any shade and by the time I finally get anywhere I almost always have a big sweat patch somewhere. Got to the park and had a stroll round it. Even in the shade it was still hot, but bearable. Their was tennis courts everywhere, a small running track and a badminton hall around ... read more

National Day Parade, Preview (29 July 2006) The National Stadium will be put to sleep after it braces itself for the final time on the 9 of August 2006 for the nation’s 41st NDP celebrations. 33 years after it first opened for the 7th Seap Games, it will be replaced by a new sports hub in 2010 in time for the Sea Games in 2011. Clare and I went to the stadium for the last time for the NDP Preview last Saturday to capture the final snippets of the place before it plough its way for the bull dozer. Kallang MRT station was full of red devils as we arrived. Both of us came to watch the parade after a hard day of work on a Saturday. The walk to the stadium was long and queuing ... read more
