During June 2009 my family headed to Maasin, Southern Leyte to attend my cousin's wedding. We stayed in a cheap but clean pension house located in Downtown Maasin. Its called Casa Ampil they have just renovated the establishment and I paid 450 for the 2 bedroom but they dont have hot shower. Then we went to have a dinner at Kinamot sa Abgao restaurant, a rustic and filipino inspired restaurant located at teh seaside. Good food and reasonably price. I like the dim-lit dining area and its ventilated by the sea breeze as it is located at the seaside. Perfect for romantic dinner and for the whole family. The next day after the wedding we headed for Macrohon, its a one-hour drive municipality south of Maasin. The reception took place at Kuting reef resort and spa, ... read more

I can think of worse places to spend a few hours than Hong Kong's airport. Although it opened ten years ago - replacing the infamous Kai Tak Airport with its hair-raising approach and relatively frequent instances of planes taking a dip in Victoria Harbour after overshooting the runway - it looks barely a day old and is an extremely impressive structure. Unfortunately, our flight is at half past midnight and by the time we arrive most of the airport's fancy shops are shutting for the night. We're not short of time, however, so have a tasty bowl of noodles at one of the terminal's umpteen restaurants and loiter there until check-in time reading our trashy airport novels. We're just about ready to call it a day and fall asleep when it's time to check-in. It's not ... read more

Ana succesfully completed the second stage of the race and opted to take a detour from Bohol. Ana, had the option of continuing on to the third stage, which would have taken her to the hills above Ormoc City to visit the reputed home of a giant eel in Lake Danao. However, in choosing the detour Ana could fast forward the race and go directly to the fourth stage and take a slower pace. Ana chose the latter and found herself hitching a ride on a slowboat to Southern Leyte province. Prior to leaving I had to perform a task to secure the fast forward..and my task was the consumption of one balut. For those who are not familar with balut, it is a partially formed chicken embryo fermented for 16 days. I have a ... read more

We arrived safely at Sogod Bay Scuba Resort after a ferry and hour long ride in a minivan. Ron, one of the owners greeted us and had a chat. Sogod bay is a famous area for diving with whale sharks but we were out of season so we didn't get a chance to do this- next time gadget, next time. Our stay at Sogod Bay was a pleasant one, diving twice a day and relaxing the rest of the time or exploring the surrounding towns. Our cottage was a fairly recently built room with ensuite bathroom with hot water AND air conditioning. A real treat in our price range. We ended up staying 7 nights because we enjoyed the place so much. The best dive we did was a night dive under the pier at ... read more
