Allow me to introduce my Blog and give you a little background information.
I am just finishing up a five-month scuba diving adventure in S.E. Asia. Several people I met along the way asked me to think about writing a blog. They actually want to see my dive photos! So I am going to give it a whirl. I’ll be learning as I go.
Having left middle age in the dust, I had begun to wonder if there was anything exciting left to look forward to. This trip came as a big surprise to me. A woman I had never met dared to dream, and she dropped that dream in my lap. I was scared and uncertain, but I took that giant leap of faith and set off on the trip of a lifetime. I have had a wonderful time meeting new people, seeing new places, and doing new things. I am recycling...“Yes, I can!” I discovered I am an adventurer.
I hope my travels will encourage you to follow your dreams. If you are a young mother who has put your dreams on hold until your parental responsibilities wane, cling to those dreams; refine them. You will be ready when the time is right. If you are older and you think that time has passed you by, and you think your dreams are dust, you can breathe new life into them. There is enough time. There is enough money. Just take a deep breath and act. I raised seven children. I had five children still at home when my husband passed away after a long struggle with chronic emphysema. I earned my teaching degree at fifty and graduated college the same weekend as my oldest daughter. I took that degree to Bulgaria where I served three years in the Peace Corps and celebrated my 60
th birthday.
I have been scuba diving for over thirty years, and I also backpack, bicycle, snowshoe, downhill ski, and ballroom dance. I still work as a substitute teacher in two local districts and supplement my income by working several hours a week at my son’s aquatic nursery…I actually like to pull weeds.
During this trip, in a taxi in Sorong, Indonesia, I told two shy Muslim school girls, “Today is my birthday.” One of them said in surprise, “It is mine also.” We exchanged smiles and token gifts. She was just 15. I turned 71. This is one of my favorite "Wonderful Surprises", encountered as I continue to travel to those "...far away places with strange-sounding names..."
Because this started as an extended dive trip most of my photos are underwater. I am still learning to use my new camera, and the quality of the photos leaves a lot to be desired. However, I hope you will be astounded, as I am every dive, with the beauty and variety of God’s undersea creatures. Tomorrow is a new day and a new dive, and I will continue to hope for a breakthrough with light and color.
I pray I will brighten your day. And maybe even make you laugh.
