Snakes on a Plane
Got to have snakes on a plane Day 1 Flight
Cebu Pacific, its a budget airline operating from Melbourne or Sydney direct to the Philippines.
The line up for the bag drop was long and didn't seem to have any order to it and we changed lines several times, always, always to the slowest and felt like we were stuck in a cartoon of never ending waiting. Not sure if it was a Cebu thing or a Melbourne airport thing.
On the Cebu flight it says that you can't bring phone chargers in your carry on.. ignore this, you can.
The flight wasn't packed and yet Kym and I were separated sitting 'next ' to each other with an aisle inbetween us and a row of empty seats infront of Kym. We weren't allowed to change until the seatbelt sign came off after take off and I can tell you I literally threw my gear onto the seat as soon as the sign went out and bolted.
Cebu has no inflight entertainment and we had read a few blogs about this and had downloaded a few Netflix series and movies and had ebooks and even a paper book (I know, old school, right).
Buzz Balls
15% alcohol We hadn't prebought the meals, opting instead to get HJ's at 4pm and I had a cheese platter organized for the trip, chocolate and the obligatory Allens
Snakes..(you need snakes on the plane)
The airplane menu is cheap by airline standards, they only accept cash, preferring Philippine pesos over AUD cash and giving change back in the pesos regardless.
A beer will set you back around $5 and a spirit mix (3 to choose from) around $7 (its also 15% alcohol) so after 2 of those, I had a nice buzz going on which was funny cause they were called Buzz Balls..
The seats were okay, a little hard and the headrest doesn't move so if you are planning on sleeping bring a neck pillow.
The staff were nice, I liked the casual look of fluro yellow polo shirts, lagoon green vests and denim pants and skirts.
Apart from slight turbulence, the flight went smoothly. I tried to sleep with my legs resting on Kym, however some dude was playing one of those 80's sounding Tetris type games with those annoying repetitive sounds and I felt like I was Mario collecting coins in my head. And there was weird smells of deep heat, nappies, farts and food; interesting combo..
Definately would fly again with them though.
Arrival into Manila airport was late at night and we found that immigration and customs to be very casual about eveything. We took a pre booked taxi as we couldn't download the Grab app at the time and even though it was 3 times the price, I was hot and tired and just wanted to get to the hotel as it was nearly 1am. Long haul.
Manila was still busy, kids walked the streets and played games of basketball. People sat on street corners chatting, dogs ran around the main streets and although the traffic flowed one way, often people in scooters and even tricycles went against traffic. The radio station played old 80's songs, not the cool rock stuff but more like ...Olivia Newton John..The ride was kinda scary, the cars were so close together, I thought for sure a few times we were going to have an accident.
Our hotel was close to the airport as we had a flight the next day. The room was small but clean although like many of the places we had stayed in Bali had a residue mold smell. The bed felt comfy enough and the aircondioner was cold. We had one thin minky blanket...
