The Digos experience
On our way to Kapatagan, Digos As always, travel to Davao City is something i really look forward to. My first visit to Davao City was in October 1995 when i attended the National Conference for Architects, and the rest was history. I can't count anymore how many times i have visited Davao and each visit is always a new experience.
Last year, i visited Davao City in October for 8 days due to training and again UAP-NCA. One thing, i can't forget was my Digos experience with my colleagues, shina, hazel, franie and bong. No activity for that day in our NCA that we decided to go zip-lining. We travelled for 3 hours to Digos by a rented cab then from Digos we have to take a motorcycle to reach the foot of the mountain(another 20 KM) where we will ride the what u call Zipline. We have to make some stop-over coz it was raining hard and it's zero visibility. The motorcycle i am riding with (franie and hazel) has no fog light. And after a long travel, a lot of hassle ---We didn't get the chance to get inside the park and see those cables used in zipline. Rushing water from the mountain
Bong & Shina
quite heavy and so the rain, they're just 3 w/ the driver, in the motorcycle---our vehicle is at the back and we are 4. They're guiding us coz it's zero visibility and we don't have the fog light!!! prevented us to hike for another 1.5KM. We can even rent a horse but because of the flood we just opted to go back. We went home sad having to hitch ride in a jeepney going down the mountain. Anyway, there's always a next time! Think positive! Walang Aayaw! hehehe.
Again, official travel brought me back to Davao this time---all by myself. August 4-7, 2009, my second time for this year. Will i ever have time to enjoy? or even enjoy it myself? Well, knowing me, i can always make it happen... nothing can stop me from enjoying Davao. I arrived at 8:05 in the morning, fresh from lining up at Pres. Cory's wake at the Manila Cathedral. I headed directly to the hospital and attended Execom meeting. It was a long day actually. Having to attend to three meetings, done at 9:00 in the evening.
I invited Divine to join me for dinner at Colasas, Bajada branch, Pe-cho sarap! I always expect my first nite at DMC Dorm as always a nightmare for me! i cant sleep, it's becoz i knew i'm all alone in that building. The Dorm is a 3 storey building and the first
Digos zipline
The Digos explorers! October 2008 2 floors are being occupied only at day time. As usual, i'll be awaken by the guard's shouting using a megaphone---PALIHOG DIHA SA BANTAY NI so-so. hahaha. It's already a familiar line to me... hearing those in the wee hours is not new to me anymore. lol. My lullaby. hahaha.
Then second day was a non-working holiday, a lazy day. So woke up late then had my lunch at Luz Kinilaw--- Inihaw na Panga, coke and fresh mango for 220 pesos. I went to SM Davao for the first time, seldom do i go to malls when i'm on out-of-Metro Manila travels. I got myself an umbrella at Watsons. It's so hot and warm in Davao and need something to shield me from the sun. huh! At four in the afternoon, when the sun had gone down, took a cab to Lola Abon's at Matina for Durian sweets. I also tried their Durian ice candy! sooo delicious at 5pesos! then our regional engineer fetch me and then we went to Jack's Ridge. It's located at the Shrine Hills, once a headquarters of the retreating Japanese forces towards the end of the World War II. It's thousand feet above sea
Kofi
my Kofi at Chicco di Kaffe at SM Davao level where u can have a great view of the whole Davao city! Had dinner there at Taklobo resto with Divine and later had 2 bottles for the road---San Mig lite at their Kai's Bar and Grill. It was an acoustic night and we enjoyed the music and the night away! Went home to DMC safely!
Third day! It was all work....we're done at seven in the evening. After a hard day's work, we went to Torres street to buy some fresh Durian. We got it cheaper this time---at P45 per kilo. I bought 540 pesos worth of fresh Durian and this time i ate a lot. hmmm. Frequent travel to Davao and i'll be an expert Durian eater. We had our dinner at Banoks, no more chicken, so we just settle for their SINUGLAW. Cost of food is just reasonable.
It's friday, woke up early 7:00 in the morning, had breakfast at Chowking--- miss my usual breakfast back in Manila. hahaha. Went to Seagrade, bought some frozen sea foods and went back to DMC to get my things, drop by at the Office of the Chief, got my certificate of appearance, then last minute discussion and review
Chicco di Kaffe
where i had my kafe latte' of the MOA and then went to CHD. At eleven in the morning, took a cab to the Davao International Airport. My flight back to Manila is at 1:10PM.
It's really nice to travel alone, sometimes. You can manage your time well and decide on your own. WILL I EVER VISIT DAVAO again in the future??? DEFINITELY YES!!! I love the food, love the place and most especially--- the urban living and yet there's a touch of rural setting especially the hospitality of the people. Ayo-ayo diha sabi nga ng mga Davaoueños (Take care as locals would say!)!
