I have finally made it to the other coast of Cebu and am on the beach YAY! Unfortunately, there are still no pictures available, but I'm sure soon enough I will be able to find some place that will convert my images onto CD. After being in Cebu City for about 3 days in a place I suspect was a whore house, I met up with a friend, whom I met in Nepal, and headed out to Moalboal. It was an incredible bus ride- it's been a while since I've been on a bus that has gone faster than 30km/hr. The roads were paved and the scenery spectacular. Loads of coconut, banana, durian, jack fruit, rose apple, and mango trees everywhere. They even have bread fruit here! Tomorrow at 9am I start my PADI course YAY! ... read more

Haha...okay that's not the exact phrase, it's more, but you look....I've been in 3 countries this past week and that is what I've been told in all of them. It's confusing me now. Before I forget: HAPPY BELATED THANKSGIVING! I hope everyone enjoyed the company of family, friends, and of course, Thursday's meal :) Sorry for the delay in updating this blog (Irene :p), but it's been a bit crazy since the Everest trip in terms of access to longterm computer useage, which is what I needed for uploading pictures. But alas, those pictures are on a boat somewhere, or at least I am hoping they are, so no pictures for this update....not until the next downloading session (?). After Everest, I stayed mostly within Kathmandu Valley area doing several tours on local buses and once ... read more

How time creeps on in its steady stride while we notice the little aches and pains! I felt my knee was sore (perhaps from carrying such a big pack) , possibly old injuries resurrected. Anyway today was very humid and dusty, Cebu is alive and well, lot’s of trading going on from the street peddler to the international currency market (such as my distant relative who part owns a bank!). I met with old friends and my banker relative who took us to the local go-go bar (lol)! That is the last time I let someone choose where we go next (smile). Anyway, after some awkward moments, we had a couple of beers and left to ponder on our teenage years. It was nice to catch up even for a brief moment, so much to say ... read more

Today as my taxi drove past the cinema, I noticed a banner ad for the movie “Man on Fire” with Denzel Washington. About 10 years back, I read a book by A.J.Quinnell called “Man on Fire” (1980) about a shot at redemption of an ex-dog of war, mercenary. Common plot but I am always drawn to this kind of stories. The book is an excellent read, though. I truly got excited at the prospect of watching this film, half hoping that it did not stray much from the novel by A.J.Quinnell, of which I am a fan. Anyway, today we were scheduled to watch “Feng Shui”, a local horror flick. Everybody that suggested that we see this movie got ear bashed by me after. I must admit I partly enjoyed it and cracked me up like ... read more

Arrived in Cebu from my Air Philippines flight (shaken and jarred from a little turbulence - the old aircraft does not inspire confidence, but the cabin crew did). Taxi stand charges a fixed rate of P250.00 (USD $4.44) from Mactan Airport to the city. This is the city where I grew up so I was feeling nostalgic as I saw familiar and not so familiar places. I find Cebu to be better than Manila in terms of accessibility and lay out. The people are not as aggressive too in comparison to Manila. Dubbed the Queen city of the south, it still retains that old colonial charm with its Spanish inspired houses and named streets. I arrived at noon to meet my sister in our old ancestral house (in very sad disrepair) and to my amazement, nothing ... read more

Feb 15-19,2004 This is my second visit to the Queen City of the South, Cebu. The first is totally forgettable, since it was work-related and i was so pressured that time that i didn't have much time to go-around the city. This trip is still work-related but i stayed longer, and toured the city with Jeric, so we had the luxury to travel around. Plus, we had a free hotel-accomodation in Day's hotel(won thru a raffle, when we watched LOTR's ROTK premiere in SM Megamall, sometime in Dec 2003.) Wow, we were really lucky. Next time, we'll try to visit Cebu again, we never had the chance to go to their beaches (Malapascua & Bantayan Islands).. been hearing nice things bout them. What to see/do - Plantation Bay - Basilica de Sto. Nino - Magellan's Cross ... read more

Looking Back: Bantayan Island - Dec. 1996. After Christmas of 1996, my friends and I planned an out of town trip. This was to be the first of the many trips we'll be having. Our first stop was Cebu City, we stayed at my uncle's place. My cousins were our tour guide. the first few days we visited, the Taoist Temple in Beverly Hills; Magellan's Cross across the Sto. Nino Shrine; a beach in Mactan. The food is inexpensive and local cuisine was superb. We took a fast ferry, Oceanjet 2 of Socor Shipping Lines to Sta. Fe, Bantayan. It is an island north of Cebu mainland. The fare was 300pesos/person and we left the port of Cebu at 5:30am. It was about 3 hours fast ferry ride. When we got to Sta. Fe, there ... read more
