talisay, batangas
taal volcano crater "Taal Volcano has been called the smallest active volcano in the world. It is located about 70 km south of Manila in the middle of a lake called Taal Lake. What makes Taal Volcano unique is the fact that the volcano itself forms an island that has a lake of its own inside the crater which is called the "Crater Lake", thus it is a lake within a lake." the volcano island can be reached by taking a half hour boat ride from any town on the shores of Taal Lake but the most popular jumpoff point is from the town of Talisay. -EPPGarcia
the adventure:
we left manila at 6am and were stucked in traffic in bacoor, cavite. after 2 and a half hours drive, we finally reached tagaytay.. we drove going to talisay, batangas and looked for villa amparo (referred by a friend) to rent a boat going to taal volcano.
boat rental was P1,500 (for seven passengers), after more or less 30 mins, we were in taal volcano. but in order to see the crater, you have to trek for an hour although you have the option to go all the way up through horseback
ride. registration was P50 per person. since it was already 10am, two of us opted the horseback ride for P500. other friends chose to trek going to the crater.
despite the heat, we really enjoyed the view going up. we were actually mesmerized by the breathtaking view of the volcano crater and the mountains.
