A last suprise awaited us on this trip. We had discussed with our guide leader about arranging a Helicopter flight at Lukla. He went one better and arranged it for today - which also meant we would get dropped back at Lukla on completion. Not only were we to get 45 minutes flying round the Himalaya at 21000 feet, but no more walking! In our minds, getting back to Namche was mentally the end of the trek, with just 2 days of walking to get back to Lukla. No one felt guilty in the slightest that we were to miss out on the last 3 hours of trekking to Lukla.

At around 0845 we arrived at the rudimentary helipad, already aware the helicopter was circling overhead preparing to land. To our amusement, when it landed the first cargo to be offloaded was Everest Beer - clearly a priority in these parts.

That morning we had drawn lots, and for once I drew a good seat - at the front by the window. Fantastic. I would get really good views and be able to take lots of super photographs. As it transpired, there was a small open window to my left that I could poke my telephoto lens out of - and the pictures I captured were beyond anything I could possibly have expected to have taken.

Proud
As I seem to have spent the past 3 weeks and 2 days annoyed with you for leaving us; I thought it best to declare publicly that we are all very proud of your achievements at home here and really looking forward to having you home. Still not sure how on earth you will settle back into the normal grind of life after seeing such wonders and sights, but luckily we have 2 mini people here who are excited about Xmas that will help you with that! lol. Lots of love from Team Arnold at moon base Alpha. xxxxx
