Day 45 - A late start to an easy day This is my last full day in Nepal, in fact, of the trip! I really don't intend to do anything that will take any effort today. My plan is, to do nothing! Although I do question my plan as I really aren't very good at doing nothing! The thought of doing nothing is always a bit of a dream, but when it arrives I soon get fidgety, and bored! I slept ok last night, although was face timing until late! I also spent a while looking at the different ways I can attempt to put all of my shopping into my rucksack! I would say that solving logical puzzles is one of my strengths, but this one has got me stumped! It does look a bit ... read more

Aaaaa Day 43 - Final goodbyes, hello solo at Shankar Palace We all got up to see our first group member leave this morning at 7.30. It's goodbye to Bernie from Germany. The taxi arrived on time, it was hugs from everyone, then she was gone! Bernie had been a good companion throughout the tour. She had a very even balanced personality. She loved her food, and her drink too! Bernie was always ready and eager to join in with every activity that came her way. She was quiet and unassuming, always showing positive participation with all of the group members. The thing I enjoyed the most with Bernie, was sitting back and watching her come to life, when meeting new people, she positively, visually flourished at those times. Thank you Bernie. I enjoyed sharing my ... read more

Day 42 - Travelling from Pokhara to Kathmandu I got up at 4.15, all packed and ready to go, not no, it's still raining, so no sunrise again. Aw well, we did try! Back to bed until seven. I missed the get together again last night! I do seem to make a habit of it! Getting back from Busy Bees wasn't easy! It was torrential rain and pitch black. I was stone cold sober, having been on water all night due to having a few dizzy spells today! Can't be bothered with the long story,we were all, plus an extra 2, going back to the hotel for an extended get together! but the taxi driver either didn't understand us, or just didn't listen, but he went the completely wrong way, irrelevant of our shouting, "no", at ... read more

We caught a flight this morning from Lhasa to Kathmandu that resulted in us arriving here before we left China, 2h15min time difference. Unfortunately it was too cloudy for us to see Mt Everest. After we sorted our transit visa, we were able to sneak into a lounge for our 6 hr stopover, a bit of luxury after some of the sounds me smells of China no whatever comes in India. A bit incongruous given all that has happened in this city, but hey ho. More to follow from India.... read more

The hotel is very nice to me and in the morning there is a wonderful breakfast that is included. Again, it is called Samsara Resort. But don't go running to get reservations just yet! Read the rest of the story...it is in the blog I wrote on the hotel. I had breakfast then started to walk over to the restaurant/bar. It was very early and I knew my friends would still be asleep, so I past my turn and walked around town. I watched as the women carried plates with lit candles , flowers, and some kind of red wax , over to the prayer houses that were set up on almost every block. These prayer houses were different than the ones in Thailand. These are big enough to go inside to pray and most do. ... read more

March 26, 2015 There are only 2 days left before I fly back to Bangkok and I want to make the most of the rest of my stay. I went downstairs to breakfast, in the hotel, and saw the tables were all full. I spotted a table with 2 guys and 2 empty chairs so I asked if I could sit there. One guy was from Russia and one was from Japan. I could not help myself, and asked the guy from Russia how he felt about Putin. At first he looked a little confused like he thought it might be a trick question. Then he said, "I like him some days and I don't like him on other days." SAFE ANSWER! I proclaimed my distaste for the American Government and our entire voting system and ... read more

In case you didn't read my other blog that started this story, I am staying in the Samsara Resort hotel because a friend of mine arranged with her friend for me to be there. Her friend, is very close with the owner and have known each other all their lives. Upon arriving the first day I tried to pay but they said it was taken care of. Now it is the second day and after I woke up I went down to the lobby where there is an area for breakfast. It was a full breakfast with lots of choices. It is included with the room. I had pancakes, sausage, potatoes, ham, cereal, toast, juice and coffee. I went about my day and stayed there the second night too. The following morning I came down for ... read more

Sos halted a taxi and we both jumped in and it was off to the Monkey Temple. I had asked what was the most popular thing to see in Kathmandu other than Thamel and this was it. By the time we got there it was around 4:30 and all the vendors were packing up to leave. Right away I spotted a monkey in the street and when we got to the entrance they were sitting on the buildings, the stairs, etc...many of them just running around and not bothering anyone. I had to pay $2 to get in because I am a tourist and the people from Nepal get in free. When we walked in I noticed right away the prayer flags hanging in the air above the temple. Nepal is famous for pictures with the ... read more

Today was Anzac day, a day to remember but not for the usual reason. Had just moved from my tour hotel & checked into same B&B in Tamel as Dee & Ian at about 11 am. We were all on the third floor when, about noon, the whole building began to violently shake & sway. It was obviously an earthquake & we took to the outside stairs. It seemed to take forever to get down as the effect was like holding your feet in a heavy swell. It would have to be the scariest experience of my life. Not sure how long it lasted but I guess about 30 sec. A 6 story hotel 2 doors down from our B&B had almost instantly collapsed. People were known to be inside & locals were frantically scratching away ... read more
