Giving gifts to the poor children
Bethlehem Kathmandu Church August 2010 In July and August 2010 I spent 4 week in Kathmandu Nepal working as a volunteer for Kathmandu Bethlehem Church and orphanage where I taught English to church members and orphans. The poverty in Kathmandu really moved me and I have made it my goal to help the poor children in Kathmandu by collecting clothes, toys and books as well as finding sponsors for the orphans and other poor children who, without financial help, may never go to school and get an education. The reason for this email is to raise awareness of the situation in the poor areas in Kathmandu.
The Kathmandu Bethlehem Church has a Feeding program at the Church Friday and Saturday afternoons where poor children can come and eat. Sadly due to inadequate finance the Church can only feed the children twice a week. The Church is in need of financial assistance. While I was in Kathmandu I saw the need to set up the “Miss Tove Hygiene Program”. I bought soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste and towels for the poor children so they could learn to wash their hands before they ate their food with their fingers and also to brush their teeth after they ate. That hygiene
program I have now sponsored for the next 2 years. I also sponsored one child, a little 4 year old girl, Rasmita or Rose which is the English name I gave her, whose parents are very poor, the family live in one small room which is the kitchen, dining room, living room and bedroom for the whole family. The father only earns AU$ 50 per month. Without my financial assistance the little girl may never go to school and receive an education.
Christmas 2010 is just around the corner and I know this time of the year many people dig deep in their pockets to give to charities. My hope is that this year you may spare a thought for some poor children in Kathmandu who without your help may not have a Merry Christmas. Should you wish to help you can send a parcel with clothes, books, school supplies or toys (to the church, address below) or deposit a small (or large) amount of money into the specified bank account.
