It rained all night and the mountains were completely hidden at dawn. The room was hot and damp and, with the prospect of Mozzi bites, it was a choice to be bitten or be boiling, so I opted for the latter. Tom was feeling better this morning but wasn't eating much. Bob had a rough night with his tummy and wasn't in any state to do more walking. After a discussion, we asked our guide to call for a jeep so that they could go back to the hotel and rest for the day. As we waited for the jeep driver to have his cup of tea, it's Nepali time after all, we spotted this sign painted on the side of someone's house. After waving them off, we climbed a further 1,600ft to Australia Camp where ... read more

We set off on a two day trek in the Annapurna range of the Himalayas. Our guide and porter met us outside the hotel with a minibus and it took us about 45 mins to reach the start. The trail was a set of stone steps that went up and up for 3000ft, although, we didn't know that at the time. We passed through forests, fields of rice and sweetcorn and clumps of Rhododendrons. There was a mix of sun and cloud, so the conditions were favourable for hill walking. Our destination was the stone housed village of Dhampus, to a tea house that was pure backpacker ie run down, scruffy, someone's home and home cooked food. Tom had a dodgy tummy and he was feeling poorly by the time we got to the top. So, ... read more

We have three rooms and they were very basic and scruffy which is to be expected given the remoteness and poverty in the village. Bob and Tom shared, Hat and Cas and Ed and I. As I took the toiletry bag to the ladies room, they opened the door and quickly summoned me in for help. 'There's a leech', they cried! Cas had found it when she popped off her sock. After the leech was thrown outside, Cas asked me to check her all over for any other leeches. There was an almighty shriek, 'oh my god, it's a leech on my wrist'. It turned out to be the loose end of her black leather watch strap! Hat and I rolled around laughing and Cas quickly saw the funny side. We set out alarms for 5.00, ... read more

Travelling the only way to rediscover yourself, your true identity. It's a moment of peace to renergise yourself from all the tensions, frustrating lifestyle. Recently I have been to Mardi Himal base camp at the altitudes of 4500 m. It was a five day long journey. At first we started our trek from lumbre. I have been to many places but this one is so interesting. I managed my time to reflect myself at the flowing water from the streams. It was water full of rejoice. Water full of passion to let you know that you are alive. The cool water kissing my soul which was withered by scorching rays of sun made me to enjoy the glimpse of nature. The sanctity of nature is so vast even the creator will be lost in its own ... read more

So I touched down in what would be the final country of my trip in the early afternoon of Saturday 12th December. I'd booked 2 nights at Hostel Alobar1000 (12-Bed mixed dorm for a whopping 3€/night) including the 8€ airport pickup service. However, on exiting the airport I was unable to find the hostel driver and instead was forced to bargain with one of the locals to take me there. Still, worked out well since I got it for less than what the hostel was charging! About 20 minutes later I was at the hostel and it was a great little place - perfectly located, nice vibe & a great rooftop bar/restaurant serving surprisingly good grub. My schedule in Nepal was optimistic to say the least - a had a total of 11 days (including the ... read more

... read more
