Ok, so we arrived in Malaysia and took the 30minute ferry to Butterworth, we were hoping we would be able to get a bus to The Cameron highlands that night but unfortunately our luck was not in, we had totally forgot that there was a hour time difference in Malaysia than Indonesia, one hour forward so it was 20 past 8 but the time we arrived which meant it was far too late to get a bus so we enquired where we could stay the night and was told about a place just 5 minute walk away so we headed off with backpacks on and sore shoudlers lol! We stopped to use a bank and thought we would ask the lady there about a Guesthouse, the told us of 2 just another 5/10minute walk away so we decided to have a look. It had started to rain and we were tired and hungry, not a good combo so we got walking, desperate to find a guesthouse soon. We did, as we approached it we seen a woman all done up talking to a guy outside, we said hello and carried on up the mountain of stairs. We checked in to
a room wtih 2 double beds, a fan and a shared loo! I was a bit nerbous about sitting on my bed as when i pu backpack on it, it collapsed a little and a pole fell off it but hey we would soon see! We headed back out and as we did we seen the lady from outside heading to a room with the man we had seen her with before, again we said hello. We went to get some food and to the 7Eleven for water etc, as we headed back to room we cam accross some lovely females who were obviously hookers waiting on a job, they were all done up with their make-up on, skimpy clothes and standing, of course, on the street corners. We also seen them sitting by the road on a bench, they were really beautiful girls too, such a shame they have to spend life doing that. Anyway, we headed back to room and again seen the previous woman sitting outside again, this time with a new fella, my god she was pulling in business that night! We went up to room and went to bed.
The following morning we got organised
and headed for the 10.30 bus to The Cameron Highlands, we had to make a slight run for the bus but we caught it! We boarded and the journey was good, we had comfy seats and it went in quite quickly, 5 hours on a bus to us now seems nothing after Vietnam etc. We listened to our ipods, chatted and had a good laugh. The journey was uphill most of the way as the Cameron Highlands is basically up in the clouds, its 1658 metres above sea level, you can actually see white clouds beside you! It has some amazing scenery of the mountains etc, really beautiful!!! We checked in to a place called 'Fathers Guesthouse' which Charlie, our lonely planet friend, recommended and my he was not wrong this time! It was lovely! We got the last room, a double, it has 2 double beds in it, a leather couch, a table and 2 chairs and bookshelves, really nice and super clean!!! The Guesthouse also provides a restaurant, a secret garden, a movie room, 2 computers with internet, hot and cold showers, western and Malaysian loo's, games, and lots more, it was magic! We had arrived early evening
so we just dumped our stuff and headed out for some dinner, the cuisine here is either Malaysian, Indian or Chinese food so we got some Indian, had a wander around the small town (really only one road with stuff one it) then got phonecards so we could call home, what a bargain, for 1 pound 40 we got to call the UK for 1hour 6mins!!! SO i called home to speak to the Parentals, so good to be able to talk to them and not having to rush! then we went back to Guesthouse were we watched the end of Finding Nemo, went on net then headed to room to chill out and literally we did! Since we are so high up it means that its bloody freezing as in almost as cold or colder that at home in Scotland, i went to sleep with 6 blankets on me and i was still chittering!!!! Nways, we got good sleep, and woke around 10 the following morning, we were having a chill out day after all our travelling days plus we had booked to go on tour next day so we done some washing, went wander in the town to
explore then went on net for hours, it was great, then chilled out at night and gave the parentals another call, great to speak to them so much 😊
The following day we headed on our Countryside tour, me, Laura and about 7 others got picked up at 8.45 by the tour guide who was called Mr Singh. We headed off firstly to a chinese temple called Sam Poh Temple, it was really nice and had some beautiful monuments. We then took off and headed The Rose Centre, a huge big centre which grew hundreds of different kinds of flowers, it also was home to the highest peak you can walk to in The Cameron highlands, the view as astonishing, you could see for miles although some parts were blocked as covered my a cloud, thats how far up we were! It was beautiful to see all the mountains and landscape down below, plus beautiful flowers surrounded you too so it made it a lovely experience. Next up was the Strawberry fields, a huge garden area which grows thousands of strawberries! You can also buy some strawberry food there too so we both got a milkshake and my god it
was the best strawberry mikshake i have ever and think i will ever taste in my life!!! Yummee!!!! Nways, we then went on to the Tea factory/Plantation to see how tea is made, we were both pretty excited as love our cuppa's, to say the least it was pretty boring lol, just a lot of machines mixing leaves really, but it was still good to see, the actual fields were they grew were pretty cool and massive!!! Nways we got a cuppa there whih was yummy and a wee bit of ake to go with it lol! (owa!!!) We then headed to a butterfly farm where we seen loads of beautiful and colourful butterflys and also some other pretty cool animals, there was beetles, lizards, gecko's, snakes, huge frogs and many many more others, it was so cool! We got to hold some of them too whih was scary but well good!!! 😊 After that we made our last stop of the trip which was the honeybee farm and small market beside it. The bee farm was good although again pretty boring as just a load bees flying about but glad we seen it. After we had finished there we
all got back in to the mini bus and headed back to Fathers Guesthouse, it was pissing it down, the rain was thumping hard, just like back in Scotland, infact it may give Scotland a run for its money lol!!!! Nways once back at Fathers we decided to chill out as it was freezing and pouring down with rain so not the kind of weather you want to go out in so we went to the movie room and watched Shrek 3, it was the first we had seen it and it was brilliant, so so funny!!! Once we done that we headed back down to the town for a wander and to go to net cafe, it started pouring it down again but we decided just to get wet so headed to market for a wander around the stalls then up to Guesthouse as quite late and we had to get bags packed as leaving next day to head to Tanah Negara, where we would be trekking etc! So we got organised and had a earlyish night. Our time in The Cameron Highlands had been great and we had really enjoyed ourselves!
