Edit Blog Post
Well I have not been updating my blogs as regularly as normal..it is starting to get quite annoying but thought I should just write a quick update to let some family and friends know that I am still alive. From singapore we are basically just making our way back up to bangkok stopping at all the different cities and beaches as we go along.
So after Singapore we crossed the border into Malaysia and then stopped at our first destination of Melaka. Melaka was a really nice heritage city. It had alot of really nice historic buildings and a great china town. Our time in Malaysia could have been better but it was chinese new year the whole time we were there so alot of things were closed. When we were in Melaka we also went to a few museums and the usual tourist sights. We are not as always on the move like were at the begining of our trip so we basically just like to see the different cities and stay until we are ready to leave. All the cities in Malaysia are really nice and pleasant to be in but not much to see except the culture.
We spent Valentines day in Melaka and decided to go out for a nice dinner at a hotel. It was a delicous Japanese buffet..It was awesome to go to one because neither of us had ever tried anything in the buffet so it was fun to try everythnig and figure out how to eat it. Unfortunatly the dinner was quite expensive (20$ each) which is way more than we have paid the whole trip. After having dinner there we realized we could have had a nice dinner and a nice hotel room at another place for cheaper than just our dinner. That was kind of a disappointment but at least our valentines was memorable.
The next stop on our journey was Kuala Lumpur. Another beautiful modern city. It is so nice to be back in the world as we know it rather than India. Kuala Lumpur has alot of beautiful higrises and parks along with the famous Petrona Towers..the second highest building in the world behind Taipei 101. When we arrived in Kuala Lumpur we met up with yet another person from couch surfing. He showed us around the city and then we went to his moms house
and she cooked us an Indian dinner. We then went to his brothers house where we spent the night. Couch surfing has been a great experience for us to get to know the local people and culture and also save on hotel rooms. All of the people that we have met have been extremely hospitable.
The third night in Kuala Lumpur we decided to stay in a hotel instead so we would be in a more central location for the day and night. That is when we went to explore the city and have a night out on the town. KL has an amazing nightlife. We went to one club that had about 4 rooms. It was the nicest club i have ever seen and still way cheaper than any club at home. Before we went to the club we decided to buy a few drinks from 7-11 to cut costs at the club and it turns out the drinks at the club were way cheaper...geez.
There was also a really amazing market in Kuala Lumpur that sold all the fake jewelery, cologne, perfume, purses, watches and whatever else you could think of. Lets just say we did
alot of unexpected shopping that day and found almost all the gifts that we needed to buy for our friends and family. I wish we had moretime and room in our bags becuase I could have got so much more! It was soo cheap too for whetever you needed but you usually needed to bargain down at least 80% of their original asking point.
The night before we wanted to leave Kuala Lumpur we went to book our bus ticket to the next city (penang). There are about 25 different agencies that you can book from. We went to about 10 different agencies trying to get a ticket but it was impossible since it was chinese new year. Finally we found one but it was a bit pricer. When we saw the bus we realized why. It was the nicest ever!! The seats went completly flat and it was wide enough to be a single bed each. It was the best ride of my life. The buses in Malaysia are probably some of the best buses in the world..they are even better than the ones at home.
We arrived in our next city of Penang at 2am and
thankfully had made reservations because yet again everything was full for chinese new year. Too bad the hotel we made reservations for was the most disgusting place we have stayed the whole trip and there was nothing we could do about it because every hotel closes its doors at like 12 and they were all full anyways.
Our time in Penang wasnt as great as expected. We heard it is more Chinese in Penang than it is in Hong Kong. We were so excited becuase it was chinese new year and thought that thre would be celebrations and parties and parades..but we were wrong. Everything in the city was closed down. It was probably worse than Christmas day at home. So all we had to do was to go to the beach. I thought it would be okay to suntan in my bikin but again I was wrong. It was a full out Muslim beach where everyone was fully clothed from head to toe. It seems that Penang was full of disappointments but the beaches of thailand were quickly approaching..😊
