So, braving it for the 2nd day running on the rail system I made it to the bus station - with a couple of hiccups on the way but otherwise unscathed! For a couple of days ive been thinking about heading north to the Cameron highlands and so here I was. Booked my seat on a bus leaving at 11.30 so it gave me enough time to get a few snacks together. A nice straight forward journey that became that more interesting when we hit the highlands. Twisting and hairpin bend turning our way up the mountains passing waterfalls and rickety shacks selling anything made out of rattan with whole generations of families gathered round. After a good hour we made it to the top and to Jahan Rata which was going to be my home ... read more

Before starting this blog about being back in kL I just wanted to mention a few more things about Singapore ( will she ever stop going on about it!!!) The city is exceptionally clean, tidy, modern and well maintained. I did see a few notices regarding the fining such as moving a workman's bollard would set you back 500 dollars - about £250! And sitting, loitering or smoking in certain areas would also cost you about £30! How exactly they would endorse these fines is anyone's guess as I hardly saw any police. Lastly, the city can be a bit ott with health and safety issues such as - no one crosses a clear road until the green man tell them to - and signs telling you to mind a 2 inch high step!! Right, I'm ... read more

From Bangkok I flew Air Asia to Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia. It was my third time in Kuala Lumpur, a city of about 8 million people. To connect to my next destination I had to come here and decided to spend 3 nights in the country. I always like to be in Kuala Lumpur because it's cheaper, cleaner, better organized and less chaotic compared to Bangkok. Of course Bangkok wins when it comes to parties and going out though. Another thing I like about Kuala Lumpur is that people don’t bother you on the street to buy their goods or services like in Bangkok. So there was no “masaaaat”, no “you want suit sir?”, no “you want boom boom” etc. They just leave you alone most of the time which is great. What makes Malaysia ... read more

So 1st full day in kL started with having a lovely hot shower ( i seem to have a new obsession!) and a nice breakfast at the hotel. Headed off into china town as its the 1st place you come to this time getting photos on the way. The first thing you notice that's different here is the majority of women wearing head scarves and the full Malaysian/muslim dress, some very pretty designs but covered from head to foot. Also, the traffic in Thailand doesn't really give way to you - even on zebra crossings - its worse in Malaysia - you have to run - faster!! So i walked/ran over to central market a lovely art deco building ,headed out the other end to merdeka square which is a lovely grass area with some colonial ... read more

Day 2 in Kuala Lumpur started much the same, although this time heading straight to the train station which was easy to see but hard to get to, trying to navigate your way through busy roads, canals etc! Got my ticket to go and see the batu caves which are 20 minutes north of kL. The electronic train board is slightly out of time with the arrival and departure of the trains - making you think you've missed it when it hasn't even arrived yet! The train did arrive and to which it has female only carriages - men strictly not allowed - as they announce every few minutes! The caves are located a 5 minute walk from the train station - they are 400 million yr old Hindu caves in huge limestone hills which were ... read more

Today started off in Bangkok, some of it in the air, but most of it was in Malaysia. Said goodbyes and left ted and wan at 9.30 to go to Don Meaung airport about an hours drive away. My taxi driver was very smart with a pinstripe suit, huge rings on - very bling, smart hair the lot - felt he was somewhat wasted as a cabbie! A lot of the taxis here have some sort of religious artifact adorning the dashboard, parcel shelf, wing mirror wherever they can stick it really - this one was no exception with flowers from the mirror ( they bring good luck) and what looked like a gold oyster shell with jewels spilling out and an elephant inside, sitting on the dashboard. The traffic was heavy and so it took ... read more

Hello people, Sorry for the lateness of this blog, its down to being busy and very bad wifi!!! Today we planned to visit the Petronas towers and the KL tower in KL. We had looked it up and it was a mere 15min walk from our hostel so we had a quick breakfast in the morning and headed out. The area is marked out ok just it’s hard to find your way from the hostel but once you hit the first main road there are lots of signs directing you. We found it easy enough and it’s an impressive building. We found a really good position for photos so we hope you enjoy them. We wanted to head up the tower to the walk way between the towers, which by the way is the highest walkway ... read more

Hi, This morning we woke up early. This dorm has rucksack sized lockers in the room but to get the bag in and out makes quite a lot of noise, so accidently we ended up waking the other 4 people up at 7.30 too…. sorry. We showered and had breakfast in the hostel, which was free! Just coffee/tea and jam on toast but as much as you want, so it does perfectly well for the morning meal and our budget. We headed out to the Batu caves about 9.30am. The tube/metro goes all the way there with just one change over at KLSentral. We arrived at the caves (the metro is right outside the entrance) and I was told that my knee length shorts were an inch too short off being a respectable length to go ... read more

Hello Everyone, Today we had a ‘nothing’ day planned, we had an 11.15am coach pick up to Kuala Lumpar (KL for the cool kids) so we could not do anything in the morning, so we just had a lie in, late breakfast and read in the morning. We got picked up on time (first for everything); we only had to pay 35 ringlets, which is about £6.50 to travel 5 hours on a coach!!! Would cost loads in England!! We got dropped off at the booking office who told us we had to wait for the coach there, we got chatting to another couple from Newcastle and Derby who were going to KL on the same bus, they had been a few weeks before so they gave us some tips. (Always love a tip) After a ... read more

Auf jeden Fall ... read more
