Back to Kuala Lumpur! This is not the first visit for neither Tanya or Tiffany...and for me, it is easily over twenty visits to the Malaysian capital. One thing is sure about Kuala Lumpur, hotels are some of the cheapest in the region. Imagine that 60usd gives you a night at the Imperial Sheraton. You count on the fact that we always receive a nice upgrade...that we have access for three of us to the lounge for breakfast...and that from 5pm to 8pm, it's open buffet and open bar at the lounge...I guess this is cheaper than my backpackers years some twenty-one years ago for my first visit to KL! Oh, and I forget, they even gave us some free laundry. So the deal was not only to spend time in our comfortable suite or being ... read more

La même chose ... read more

After a fifteen hour travel day that involved a taxi, two planes, two buses, and a lot of walking I made it to my destination of Kuala Lumpur - the capitol city of Malaysia and my 14th country in the last ten months of travel. My first impressions were of that it was similar to Singapore with a large cultural mix of different ethnicity including Malays, Chinese, and Indians. Also arriving here their were a lot of tourists. I was no longer one of the few white people around and no longer the novelty I was in Indonesia. The city itself would serve as a fun enough place to explore and would be my backdrop for ringing in 2013. Of course before the big night I had a few days to kill exploring and getting my ... read more

Well its been a while since I last updated the old blog as I've not been on any long trips due to moving house. In my fantasy world that was all going to take a couple of months and off i'd go but in the real world it took nearly 18 months. During that time I did manage a ten day stint in Malta which I really enjoyed especially Valletta. I also took a couple of weeks in Southern Spain starting in Malaga, which was much nicer than i was expecting , before taking the train up to Seville......fantastic if you've not been go. Spent much of my time in the tapas bars near the cathedral eating myself into obesity. Last stop Granada where it snowed as i arrived!! Mind you it was February. Got a ... read more

Made it to Malaysia! I left Krabi early this morning and had about a 1 hour flight to Malaysia. I was sad to say bye to Jacque, but also excited to continue my adventure! I could have stayed in Krabi another couple of hours, or spent more time in Malaysia. I decided to leave early to make my stop over 12 hours so I could leave the airport. I tried to get breakfast at the Krabi airport. The options were dried fish and squid or chips. After much debate, I had salt and vinegar chips for breakfast. I was going to take a tour in Malaysia, but it was full. Im proud of myself because I went out on my own and this is probably the part of the trip I was most nervous about. I ... read more

Suzanne here... Fortuitously, we snagged the last two seats on the bus from Jerantut. Cutting it a little too close for comfort, especially as we'd dawdled and let the other westerners on the bus from Kuala Tehan get to the ticket office first. Still, all worked out ok. Said westerners seemed totally clueless about the seat numbers on the tickets (surely the same in any country?) causing mayhem at the next town and getting annoyed when people who had booked quite reasonably asked them to move. We sat smugly in our allocated seats not getting involved. It was raining hard when we arrived in KL but luckily the monorail stop was just steps away and it had stopped by the time we got off. We found the City Comfort Hotel easily. A bit nicer than the ... read more

We cannot really say the reason why - but we love this city. Every time we are there, it is different but equally amazing! In general, we are not big city fans. Normally, we prefer nature and quiet spots. But from time to time it is also quite nice to spoil yourself with some big cityoffers, right? There are some big (and smaller) cities in this world, we really like: Buenos Aires, Madrid, Cape Town, Wellington..... well, and Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur is not exactly a pretty city. But it is an incredable mixture of culture and religions. In all the different parts of town there is a different vibe and it is changing all the time. So here we were again! Ready to have an amazing time again. And so much about the changes. When ... read more

Saturday 10th September, 2016 We began our journey to Malaysia by leaving a cold and wet Melbourne at 6.45am. We sadly said goodbye to Mango at home as we couldn’t take him in the car with us to the airport as Gav was dropping us off on the way to work. It was very hard to leave him as we know he won’t understand where we’ve gone or that we’ll be away so long etc! The airport check-in and customs etc went very quickly and smoothly – I’m sure this gets better each year that we travel! The flight itself seemed very quick even though it was close to 9 hours. It was full of kids but they weren’t any trouble at all – actually quite entertaining! We watched a couple of movies and before we ... read more

Geo: 3.12433, 101.684After a final yummy breakfast at the fancy Perdana Hotel in Kota Bharu, we drove for close to 8 hours across the East-West Highway, which wound round and round many mountains. We searched for the mighty gajah but didn't see any, just the crossing sign warnings. We arrived in K.L. around 4 to the same hotel we started at - and where we had left the NZ suitcase. After a re-sort, we drove south to meet Joseph and Anita Pragasam, dear friends from Marriage Encounter, whom we met in 1999 and 2002. They suggested a North Indian restaurant. What a wonderful way to end our 2 weeks in Malaysia. It is so much easier to get around with the GPS on Jean's phone - best $40 we ever spent, buying the SIM card and month's time ... read more
