We had to wake up quite early today as we were picked up to do a Gardens tour today, booked with through the hotel.
We started off in a chocolate factory. It wasn't so bad, as he showed us the process of how chocolate is made. The chocolate tasted quite good in itself but a bit pricey and in this humid weather, it could melt quite easily. So whilst we all had a taste, we didn't really want to buy anything.
Next stop was the butterfly garden. Once going inside, there were lots and lots of butterflies flying around. Some of them quite small but some of them quite big, the size which I haven't seen before. One of them, its wingspan was about the same as one of my handspan. Never seen so big butterflies before. I was able to have a few good shots. I was able to practice my French a bit as there was a French lady who took the same tour as us.
The next one was the bird park. This one, I was impressed with as some of the birds were flying around freely and were not afraid of humans. We did not get to
touch them though as it seemed they were still scared of the human touch. What they've done is throw a huge net over the park so that the birds would not fly away and to protect them from predators again. Some birds like the eagle were kept in cages for protection of others but others like the peacock were roaming around. We saw an owl up close and they were so still that I thought they were fake at first!
The last park we visited was the Orchid Garden. This was not as impressive as the Singapore one. Basically, tourists walk around this track which is surrounded by orchids!
Once the tour was over, we headed back to our hotel for lunch. We had Penang Char Kway Teow. It was ok though not fantastic, probably because it came from the food court.
After lunch we went to the Petronas Twin Towers. We caught a cab there, which took quite long. I thought it would be closer but our concierge said it was very far. At the Towers, it wasn't very well indicated where to get tickets so after roaming around lost and asking where to get tickets, we finally got them.
Inside the
tower, we went up to level 40 for us to have a walk on the skybridge. That took about 15 minutes before we were ushered away to go to to the observation tower on level 86. Up there we again had a good view of KL however it wasn't really a 360-degree view. You had to cross from one side to the other if you wanted to look at the other side. Again after 15 minutes or so, we were ushered out to take the lift back down to the ground floor.
Outside, we again took some pictures of us outside the twin towers. Then we headed off to the hotel to rest up a bit before heading out to dinner. Dinner was at a local food court just up the road. Chicken rice with salted fish and fish ball soup. Not bad I thought but enough.
At night, we went to Pavilion and realised that there were a lot of eating places there! Whilst it does look quite upmarket, the food prices were reasonable, especially up in Tokyo Street. We got a lot of popcorn from Planet Popcorn! We tasted a few and bought heaps! I didn't realise that by the
time we finished shopping, it was already quite late!
